View Full Version : New background color...

I figured since we're the ones looking at it the most we should let Maelynn know what we think of the background color on the BB! :D Personally, the white hurts my eyes and I can't see the alternate colors as well, like links and the red 'search' words when I'm scanning posts in the search mode. In my opinion the white isn't as user-friendly. I'd prefer a light blue to go with the new springy motif, or another light contrast color.
What does everyone else think? Maybe Maelynn would appreciate having all of our comments about this in one place! (Because of course she listens to them... ;) )

Yep, it hurts my eyes too. I voted to "take it back to the gold color," although blue would be fine too, I guess. This just seems to have a lot of glare.

I voted for 'Other'. I think the beigey-yellow color that you see on the main BB page would make a nice background color.

Yep, hurts my eyes too. It makes me see spots when I look away. I didn't mind the last color and I guess light blue could work.

Anything but this GLARING white screen! Too bright!
The lavendary-blue color is nice...
Kyle
ps--I turned down the brightness on my monitor & that helps for the meantime, but it really needs to be changed.
Thanks for starting this poll Jewel. I have been looking at the boards for 15 minutes and my eyes have had enough! When I look away from the screen I see bright circles. It might be an alien invasion but I don't think so!!! I voted for gold but blue would be fine- anything but the white. I can be here for an hour not just 15 minutes

I would be perfectly happy with any color but white (for the contrast). I like the gold, but blue would be fine too. Even pink. Anything really!

I didn't vote, but I'm with Julia - anything but the white would be OK with me. It's blinding, and you're right that other colors don't show up well.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one having trouble reading the boards. I was ready to make an appointment with my optomotrist! I voted "take it back to the gold color," but anything with less glare would work for me!

Being forever in the minority, I voted "keep it white"... and I beg the administrators of the sight (should they decide to change the color) to PULEEZE not make it powdery and feminine-looking.
While I will give it to you that the white is much BRIGHTER (and stimulates the eyes far more than the yellowy-brown-whatever that it was), it is also a cleaner color presentation-wise, and FAR more printer-friendly.
For those of you being injured by glare, why not try adjusting the brightness on your monitor? You might be pleasantly surprised at how UN-bright (but readable) white can be.

I totally agree this is killing my eyes, I already work on a computer all day, but this white is an over kill. Love everything thing else:)

I LOVE the white! It is so much easier to read. I hated that gold/brown/olive color. This is refreshing to look at.
Well, I used to really hate the gold color -- it was too dark, and I often found it too hard to read. Thought anything would be an improvement -- but this white is too bright.
Any lightly-tinted background color would be fine -- blue, beige, a slightly lighter version of the old gold, etc.

I didn't vote because any color other than white would look better, I think...

I voted for other. I don't care if it's powder blue, golden orange, raspberry red or lemon yellow! This white is too much!

I like this new beige color too- just changed a little while ago from the white.

Jewel-
You sure do know people in high places. It just took 17 responses on your thread to get the color changed! :D

The light color of the threads (tanish beige) is o.k. when READING, but having to type in this glaring white box and looking at the background is freaking my eyes out (even as I wear my anti-glare glasses!).
I vote to take it down a notch.

Oh Yes....I like this light sage green much better than the bright white. This color also goes great with the periwinkle blue...at least that is the way I see it! Thanks Maelynn! :D

Much better color now - somebody was paying attention! Thanks.
Thank you Maelynn! This beige is much better! Gee you must really get fed up with us sometimes... but you know its only cause we are passionate about this place!:)

Ok, some of us see beige, others sage green.
Either is fine, much better than the white. Thank you Maelynn!

Well, to me it looks light blue! But whatever, it is much better than the white. Thanks again, Maelynn!

Thank you, thank you. When I first logged on this morning (7am Hawaiian Standard - 1pm EST) I was shocked not only because it was early, but by that glaring white.
Now it is 4:30ish HST and I like the beigey, off white color that it is now. Much easier on the eyes.

The white was overwhelming when I was in my windowless office with the florescent lights. Keeping that in mind, I logged on tonight without lights and it is much easier on the eyes.

Sage green background? All monitors are not created equal, mine shows up as a light tan or stone color. What drives me buggy though is the brown type of the the post titles. Along with the backround color, the brown is not enough contrast for comfortable reading.

Interesting -- mine is definitely a pale grey!!

Mine is like a sage green/taupe color with the contrast color is kind of a violety-blue. But didn't we all have the same color before??

Mine's tan. Or rather, Taupe. Eggshell. Beige? Cream. Definitely Beige. With an infusion of Sage. Definitely Sage.

Nope. It's just that nobody ever really discussed it.
The color depends on a variety of things: your monitor, the browser you're using (Netscape, Explorer, Mozzila, etc), the version of your browser, and if you have your browser options set to anything special.
I know that with the old BB, I got slightly different shades depending on which computer I was on.

Sandy
You forgot Ecru and Ivory. Sage maybe, but not sage green (maybe I just like my greens to look more green than brown). How about Sand? :D :D

Good point, Susan. How about:
Sand-y with a Sage undertone.
I've been accused of that before, I think...........:p

I like it. We'll make it the official name for the new color. I was obviously not awake this morning when I posted, or I would have come up with Sand-y myself.
Sandy Sage—has a nice ring to it. It just took a sage (1 a : wise through reflection and experience 2 : proceeding from or characterized by wisdom, prudence, and good judgment) Sandy to come up with it. Hmm, that sandy brown color doesn't show up very well on our Sandy Sage background.
OK, now I can come up with the puns.
