Is it just me or was anyone else disappointed in the current (Nov) issue?

I guess I was expecting something closer to last Nov's issue with all the traditional countdown for Thanksgiving.

Laden,
I was also disappointed in this issue. As a matter of fact, the last couple of issues have not had many dishes that I wanted to try. It seems like a lot of the recipes are either repeats or just slight variation on a previous recipe. I was hoping for yeast breads in their cooking lessons but instead they have quick breads. OH well, maybe some other time.

I was disappointed too, but maybe for a different reason from other folks. It seemed to me that almost every recipe was loaded with all the things I hate: butter, margarine, sour cream, mayo, etc. -- even the lentils, for heaven's sake! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif There wasn't a single thing I wanted to try, except maybe the baked eggplant and mushrooms, and then I realized it was almost exactly like something I already make.

Oh, well. With all the great stuff we've had this year, one misfire isn't bad. (Maybe I should change my username to Pollyanna? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif)

Cheers, Phoebe

Actually, I really like the November issue! I haven't made anything yet...the issue never seems to hit the stands here (Vancouver, BC) until the actual month of the issue, so I just got mine. I didn't like last Nov's issue much because of all the big Thanksgiving dishes. I only cook for two, so I never make that stuff. Also, it seems from another thread floating around here that most people make the same stuff every Thanksgiving, maybe just changing a side dish or two each year. The big full menus are nice, but I don't think many people make them - you never get a chance to try them out before the big day, and who wants to serve an entire untested menu for company? (Also, Thanksgiving was three weeks ago here in Canada, so I'm all turkeyed out!). I did like that in this issue, there are some turkey dishes that aren't so traditional - I'll definitely have to try the Jerk Turkey Cutlets with Cranberry-Habanero Salsa! Yum! Some of the root vegetable dishes look good too.

Just felt I had to offer my dissenting opinion...

I have to say that I like November's issue. Maybe its because of the variety of sweets. I will have to say that I was disappointed in the special edition, Make It Ahead vs. the year before's edition, The Best of Cooking Light. Make It Ahead is more like a magazine with all the ads and The Best of Cooking Light was like a soft cover cookbook. There was a difference in price, but that wouldn't have bothered me. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

My mom hasn't sent me my Nov. issue yet, but based on all the recipe descriptions I've seen, I think I'm going to be really pleased. I wasn't too thrilled with Make it Ahead, either, because I'd seen so many of the recipes before! It's probable that they were short on recipes, and just fell back on old standbys, but I don't really like to pay four dollars for something that has at least 10 repeaters in it. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

I have to say that after a first read-through, I'm also disappointed. Only 2 or 3 recipes caught my eye. It seemed as though last year's issue had a lot more holiday recipes I wanted to try, as well.
