Last night, after a long day of planting, muching, and weeding, DH and I had the first hamburgers of the year. It is funny....I grill year round on my back deck, but I really only want hamburgers in the summer.
Anyhow, we splurged on realy red meat burgers (93% lean, with vidalia onion, salt and pepper). For me, turkey burgers jsut don't do the job. I like them, especially some of the CL variations, but I really love red-meat hamburgers about 4 times a summer.
What do you all have at summer barbeques? Do you stick with turkey burgers?

I'm not a big burger eater, but I do buy the Omaha Steak Gourmet burgers to keep on hand. My kids love them too, but I tell them not to get used to them as they are pricy. I do buy pre-made burgers from the butcher for them, expecially when we are having something they won't eat - such as fish or seafood. My kids only like the burgers to be all meat and then they just put some toppings on them, so I don't go throught the hassle of making them myself.

CL's Greek Burgers!!! Oh my. They're my absolute favorite. And we love the Tarragon Turkey Burgers now, too. Mmmm......c'mon nice weather......

When my parents come down and we make burgers, we grill jalapenos, mushrooms, bacon, add swiss or cheddar cheese, mix chopped onions in the beef, and end up with a giant mouthful of a burger.
Yummy. Now I'm craving one. The grilled jalapenos rock!

Burgers are on my menu for this week too - I agree they're a summertime thing. IMHO, red meat burgers must have a slab of CHEESE on top! :) And must be accompanied by a cold beer... essential after all that weeding and mulching ;).
Oooh - grilled jalapenos - what a great idea!

Could you be more specific on how you make these? This sounds awesome!
The CL grilled Tarragon Turkey Burgers are my new favorite burger! The DH still prefers the red meat burgers but I think the TTB are jucier and just Mmmm Mmmm Good! We've tried putting cubes of feta in the middle of our burgers before grilling with mixed results. Maybe we're using too little but when the cheese melts it disappears and the flavor of the feta isn't as strong as you'd expect it to be.

When we BBQ, it's usually red-meat burgers or tuna steaks. For burgers, I do a mix akin to meatloaf and make patties out of it (really lean ground beef, chopped onions, Goya Adobo seasoning, bread crumbs, an egg, etc.). Throw those on over mesquite charcoal - yummmmmm!!! And top with cheese, of course. :D

Mostly it's Bubba Burgers for us. So easy & tasty.
However - I do make my own sometimes. I've found that if I do half ground Turkey & half ground beef, even DH doesn't know it's not all beef. (I figure half turkey is better than no turkey.)

Hmmm...half turkey! Sounds like that might be the ounce of moderation I need.

I'll try--we basically just mix in some finely chopped onion to the beef, add whatever seasoning (salt, pepper, etc), and grill. I slice the jalapenos in half long ways and grill until skin is charred and peel, much like when you roast red bell peppers.
I have a grill basket that holds all the veggies.
We keep everything seperate, as my mom doesn't like the 'shrooms or jalapenos. When the burger is almost done, put the slices of jalapeno on it with the mushrooms, then top w/ cheese of your choice and bacon.
Oh yeah, and be careful cooking the bacon--all that grease can cause quite a flame. I've stepped away for just a second and ended up charring it and having some black ashes left!

I'm a beef burger person myself, but last year I tried buffalo burgers, using my usual beef hamburger recipe. They were the best burgers I've ever had! I just picked up some ground buffalo meat this afternoon, in anticipation of hamburgers, but will have to wait to grill until after tomorrow's forecasted snowstorm (I kid you not - they're forecasting 6" to 12" ).
