View Full Version : ISO a crunchy rhubarb pie from North Dakota

OK gals, I'm counting on you! I'm trying to convince my mom how great this board is! My mom is looking for a rhubarb pie recipe from her youth in Finley, North Dakota. It had a crystallized sugar quality around the rhubarb. She says that all the pies today are really mushy. I've been looking on allrecipes.com and saw one interesting one, but we're stil looking. Just in case anyone from Finley is on the Bulletin Board (I told her not likely, since I've been to Finley and can't imagine too many of them being on CL sites -- it was a meat and potatoes kind of place) she said Mabel Barry made it. I tried to convince my mom that you guys were great, but she's asking the impossible! Thanks if anyone has any ideas!

Hi JulieAnn, as the sole ND member of these boards (to the best of my knowledge, anyway), I feel it's my responsibility to try and help you out :D . (Bear with me, please, I've only lived here 2 years.) Since I don't know anyone from anywhere around Finley (contrary to popular opinion, there ARE more than 50 people in ND, and we don't ALL know each other :o ), the next best thing I could do was to find you the Finley website - yes, they do have the internet in Finley ;) . I would suggest that you e-mail somebody from the website (I promise you, they will be delighted to hear from you and/or your mom) with your request - they're bound to know Mabel Barry. I don't know if that will help you at all, but it's got more info than you'd ever want to know about rhubarb, and tons of recipes.

Does she have any idea at all as to what was in the pie?

Clara, That was hilarious! I didn't want to be offensive to anyone, but I did tell my mom jokingly that I doubted they had internet in Finley! Thanks for the info.

BlueMoose, thanks for the rhubarb website we'll check it out.

I knew someone would come through! I wish I had more ideas to offer everyone. You guys always amaze me!
