View Full Version : Who was your first celebrity crush?

Robyncz

I got to talking about this with some friends recently, and apparently I'm in the minority in my age group because I didn't go gaga over the typical Tiger Beat pin-up boys when I was a young girl. (Shaun Cassidy and Leif Garret were two of the big ones for my generation.) In fact, my first big celebrity crush was (are you sitting down?) Mr. Rogers. This probably isn't soooo strange, since my parents were divorced and I was desperate for a father figure. But my stranger (and longer-lasting) crush was on Johnny Cash. When I was about 6, maybe 8, I was sure I was going to grow up and marry him. Little did I know, he was already like 50 years old. . . Oh well.

As I read back over this, I realize this was the beginning of a pattern that followed me into adulthood. Good boy, bad boy, good boy, bad boy. Lucky for me, I was smart enough to marry the good boy!

Anyway, what about you? Who was your first celeb crush?

Donny Osmond!!! :o :D

Robyncz, you and I must be the very same age -- Shaun Cassidy and Leif Garrett were ALL OVER Tiger Beat magazine when I was 10 years old! LG's aunt/cousins lived up the street from me, and I remember him going down to the Fourth of July parade in our town: He wore a football jersey with "L Garrett" on the back of it -- and then demanded his "privacy" when the girls asked for his autograph!! Anyhow, you were in love with Johnny Cash, which is waaaay cooler than just about anything.....my first crush was on Chad Everett of "Medical Center"!

the first name that came to mind when I read the thread title (and before I read the replies) was Shaun Cassidy.

there were others of course.

Two others that spring to mind: Almonzo (sp?) -- Laura's love on Little House on the Prairie and Andy Gibb.

Robbie Benson!! Remember him?? And Donny, and David, and Leif.

Wow, am I showing my age, or what?

I have a slew of 'em - what does that say about me???? :o :p Please, no one answer that.

Debie - Robbie Benson was probably my biggest crush. I hated Glynis O'Connor because the two of them were a couple. I still think he's a cutie.

I was a child of the late 60's/early 70's, so I gotta say Bobby Sherman (must be the doe-eyed mop-top look I dug). "Julie Julie Julie do ya love me? Julie Julie Julie do ya care??" "And I cried like a baby, in the darkness of my room.....nobody there to hold my tremblin' hand......"

Oy. Talk about dating myself.

When I think of Tiger Beat, I think of The Bay City Rollers - I thought the lead singer was cute.

I also loved both Parker Stevenson and Shawn Cassidy of "he Hardy Boy Mysteries" TV show.

Does anyone remember The Dimarco Family - the singing group? I think that was their name. The little boy who was the lead singer - I think his name was Tony? "Heartbeat, it's a love beat, and a love beat is a good vibration...."

Okay I am really going to date myself here, but Bobby Sherman was it for me!! "Here Come the Brides" was my all time favorite show and I would cry if I couldn't watch it!!

Some of the above and Scott Baio, not even sure if I spelled that right so maybe it wasn't really love. ;)

Another Bobby Sherman fan here. Wouldn't you love to see "Here Come the Brides" on TVLand? I also had a crush on Davy Jones from the Monkees. My "older man" was David Hennesey on "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea."

I don't post too often (but I lurk constantly) so, since none of you know that I'm really a very balanced and normal person, I'm answering this at the risk of being laughed off the boards for good. My first celebrity crush was on Tim Curry. I'll just say that I was 12 the first time I saw him in a movie and I'd never seen anything like him before.

I was about 5, and my first crush was........I almost embarassed to say this.....Michael Jackson. Yikes. I had a poster on my door, and a dress which I called my Michael Jackson dress because it was black and shiny and on the front had a silver mesh panel with red trim. My mum still tells me that I had to wear it at least three times a week.

Now I get nightmares about this....

MEE TOO!! Except I didn't have a dress, I had a Michael Jackson glove that I wore everywhere (what a dork!! :)) My mom still tells the story about when I was mad at her and announced to the family that I was running away to live with the Jackson's in Encino, CA.

He turned out so creepy, I'm amazed that I ever thought he was wonderful

Mark Spitz!! I had a full size poster of him on my door in his teeny tiny red, white, and blue speedo and all 7 of his gold medals. My SO was also an Olympic swimmer. I must have a thing for guys in speedos! :D

That was The DeFranco Family, and I still have the album! :D Not sure it's worth much now with the lip prints and the 'I love Tony' declarations all over it.

My very first crush was David Cassidy. I had a poster of him in my room that I would kiss every night before I went to bed. I was never too crazy about Donny Osmond, I thought he had too big a smile!

My next big crush was David Soul from 'Starsky & Hutch'. I was crazy about that man for years and years and years. Of course I saw some more recent photos and read a few recent articles about him and he's turned into a bitter and cranky man who drinks way too much, but he was my Bad Boy for quite a few years!

My longest crush was (and still is) Dennis Quaid. I fell for him in 1981 while watching 'The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia' and my affection has never diminished! :D He's so dreamy... ;)

Jewel, have you seen his latest movie "The Rookie"? Mmm mmm mmm- what a mighty fine man. Movie's fantastic, too.

I was six: Davy Jones from the Monkees. But I truly went boy-crazy at 7, when Star Wars was released: Harrison Ford was my man. Then Battlestar Galactica- the blond guy- Dirk Benedict.

But when The Outsiders came out, it was all over: Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swazye, Emilio Estevez- I loved them all!!

Another MAJOR Outsiders fan here. They were plastered all over my walls. Funny thing... the one I didn't like... thought he was ugly and had big teeth... was Tom Cruise. Who knew??? :D

But my first crush was... I'm embarrassed to say it... Fonzie on Happy Days!!! :o I even wrote him a fan letter once.

My sister and I liked Shaun Cassidy too.

My first crush was either Davy Jones or John Schneider (Dukes of Hazzard). Can't remember which was first.

Sandy M - I was also a huge fan of the Bay City Rollers. Watched them every Saturday morning. The lead singer was my fave too. Now I'm going to have to "Google" BCR to find out his name - can't believe I don't remember it.

Maggie - Tim Curry, huh? It would probably help if I'd seen him in something other that Rocky Horror :D. Of course, I can't talk - I used to have a huge crush on Gene Wilder :o .

My first crush was on Herman from Hermans hermits. I use to stare at the album cover photo of him for hours! Then my sister drew a moustache on his picture!! Blasphemy!! Next was Davy Jones but my deepest crush was on Paul McCartney-that went on for years and years and ...Okay I still kinda like him!
And this is weird but after my dad died when I was 9 I had a thing for Ernest Bourgiane (spelling???) from McHale's Navy- I wanted him to be my father!!!:)

I totally had a thing for C. Thomas Howell. I was a major Outsiders fan. I remember thinking that Diane Lane was so lucky to be in a movie with all those cute boys.

Later I totally had a thing for Lou Diamond Phillips too. It was that La Bamba movie that did it for me. Oh, and I can't forget Simon LeBon from Duran Duran. I LOVED him.

OK, I'm really embarrassed to admit this, and if I knew any of you personally, I wouldn't. But I thought someone might get a laugh. My crush was on Potsie from Happy Days. I have no idea why! OMG, I can't believe I just admitted that! Also, the Bay City Rollers! My entire bedroom was wallpapered with their photos from the teen magazines. None of Potsie, though, that was my little secret!

OMG, I am ROTFL over here!!! I had to force myself to read the entire thread before posting-- I want to reply to everyone and go, "gosh, you too????" :p

My biggest crushes were Michael Jackson (grade 7), also C. Thomas Howell from the Outsiders (loved that movie and book! I probably read the book 15 times. I still own it!). When I was 5-ish I was going to grow up and marry Donny Osmond. But my very first first crush was on Speed Racer. How lame is that??? Am I the only child to fall desperately in love with a cartoon??? :o

Julie and Susan, I loved Battlestar Galactica too!!! Dirk.... *sigh*..

My big crushes were...

RICKY SCHRODER

JOHN SCHNEIDER

THE BLONDE GUY FROM CHIPS

THE GUYS FROM MENUDO

This thread really dates everyone! You get a sense of how old people are by the celebs they had crushes on...for example, Davy Jones and Shaun Cassidy were not popular anymore when I was young.

Leif Garrett and Shaun Cassidy were the main ones for me. I also loved Rick Springfield before his General Hospital days - I can't figure out where I would have known him from before that, (maybe magazines - or his rock group??) but he was a cutie.

Jewel - my sister loved David Soul as well. I saw him on TV the other day and had to do a double take because it did not look like him. I think it was a "Whatever happened to ... " segment.

Oh, it's definitely NOT a chick flick- really- it's totally a guy-sports fantasy thing: once-almost-star-player-who-gave-up-his-big-chance-now-a-run-of-the-mill-dad-has-once-last-shot-and-becomes-a-major-league-star sort of thing. True story, to boot.

It'll be out in the second-run theaters soon- I saw it with DH and my brother- huge baseball fans, so that makes a difference. I was just in it to see Dennis in tight LEVIS. :)

Of course, since I was in love with a child molester (Michael Jackson), I can't poke too much fun at the crushes of others. I used to fantasize that both Michael and Rick Springfield wanted to marry me, but I managed to convince them both to just be my play-things. :D

I am loving this thread!

First crushes -- this will definitely date me -- David Cassidy and Bobby Sherman. Also Davy Jones from the Monkees.

Later, it was Paul McCartney, even though the Beatles had already broken up by that time, and he was making some pretty mediocre music with Wings.

Lisa: Would it interest you to know that I've actually "met" Speed Racer? (Or, at least I've come as close as you can, considering that Speed is animated, and I'm not?) I once had the chance to interview Peter Fernandez, who was the voice of Speed Racer and who also wrote the scripts for the English-language Speed Racer cartoons. He was incredibly interesting, and very personable -- I had a ton of fun doing that assignment.

So you can take comfort in the fact that Speed had a great "off-screen" personality, in addition to those smoldering good looks:

Yeah, I had to read the whole thread, too, before I posted. I'm also in the Gene Wilder fan club....my fav Beatles were Ringo and John...and I hate to admit it, but I was in love with most of the guys on Hogan's Heroes.

But the biggest crushes were on 2 of the 3 singing Hudson Brothers...anyone remember them? Saturday morning was all about getting my chores done so I could watch their show. I had posters of them all over my walls. And I actually named 3 of my 4 sons after them! (Brett and Patrick were for the same one, and Jeffrey was for another one). Funny how we do things like this...

Yeah, I remember the Hudson brothers. I was in about second grade and one of my best friends loved them too!
I have already confessed to having posters of Leif Garrett and Parker Stevenson up in my room when I was about 11 or 12.
It's cool to read everybody's responses, and you can really see the age differences, even if only a few years. I think I'm the same age as Peggy C and Gina and while I wasn't too into Scott Baio, most of my friends were.
My little girlfriends and I used to daydream about Fonzie and Potsie, too!

My first "pin-up" was Bobby Sherman! I was so glad to read so many other people who liked him! Other posters that joined him on the wall were David Cassidy and Mark Lindsey (of Paul Revere and the Raiders). My best friend was a major Donny Osmond fan.

One thing I'm glad to say, according to pictures of them in more recent years, they all stayed pretty nice looking. Some of the other teen idols ended up looking pretty wild. Remember Brandon Cruz from "Courtship of Eddie's Father"??? He now has body piercings, wild COLORFUL haircut...and is just very wierd looking.

Well, my dad and stepmother like to frequently remind me that I named my plant (I didn't have a dog) Speed Racer when I was about 6 or 7. Then it was the Hardy Boys. My sister would always pick the best looking guy in a group and claim him so I would have to choose another guy- like she got the lead singer in the Bay City Rollers so I couldn't like him, too. Hey, I was young, I thought she was right!

When I hit my early teen years, I saw Tommy with Roger Daltry. Whoa, where did he come from? I really really liked him with the long curly hair. Since then, I've moved on to Al Pacino (I could watch The Godfather forever. That man has such incredible sex appeal!) and Harrison Ford. DH says Harrison Ford is so old, how could anyone find him attractive? Men just don't get it. It goes way beyond looks. Harrison Ford is very sexy!

Definitely Shaun Cassidy to start. Just like you with David Cassidy, Jewel, my sister and I used to kiss Shaun's poster good night too. Many of the others that have been mentioned . . . the whole cast of The Outsiders. I always had a thing for Italians (as supported by my marrying DH - O'C----- is my maiden name) . . . anyway John Travolta from Welcome Back Kotter (Vinnie Barbarino) and Grease (Danny Zuko) up to the present . . . as well Arthur Fonazarelli (not really Italian but on the show he was) and even Carmine Ragusa (the Big Ragu) on Laverne and Shirley!
