I saw a great article on Cyberdiet this morning and thought I'd post the link. http://www.cyberdiet.com/reg/focus/movies/movie_picks.html

What things do you folks like to eat at the movies? We usually just get a soft drink and eat before we go.

To me, the munchies are part of the fun of going to the movies! DH and I have only been to the movies three times in the past five years, though. We have some huge Sony theatres near us. We normally sneak in some popcorn (we like our stove popped gourmet popcorn best!) then we'll get sour patch kids, m&m's, or some sweedish fish. The theatre we normally go to has candy by the pound! Yes, we're pigs, but we rarely go to the movies so we do go all out.

MMMMMM...I love sour patch kids! I like popcorn too, but movie popcorn is so rich and greasy that I can only eat a little bit. Plus it's salty so I have to get a soda which makes me have to go to the bathroom... It's just easier to get candy.

MMMm....soda, popcorn and maybe Milk Duds or Peanut M&Ms.

I think my kids like that part of the movie best! :) They are usually done before the movie even starts!

One of the theaters in our area does free refills on all popcorn and soda sizes! Great deal when compared with most theaters. And the tickets around here are still at about $5.50 - one of the many advantages of small town living! :)

I absolutely LOVE the bulk gummies at our local theaters. In fact, I've been known to choose a theater based on whether they have bulk gummies or not.:o It's really part of my movie enjoyment. I get a mix of things...gummy bears, swedish fish/berries, sour patch kids, sour peaches, apples, and watermelon, & jelly beans if the theater has them. I love gummy stuff!!!!

I pop my own bag of 94% ff popcorn and sneak it in. yum. I carry a backpack so the theater staff doesn't see it!

Yum, movie popcorn!! DH and I get a small popcorn (without that yucky butter stuff), small soda and a box of junior mints :). Although those small sized things at the theatre are actually quite gigantic - we can only finish half of a small popcorn between the two of us.

Most of our theaters won't allow backpacks into the theaters now, so anything I smuggle has to be carried in my purse, but I clean that puppy out and leave my makeup bag and junk in the car so I can fit stuff! :D I always take a zippie of RedVines for DH since we buy them in bulk at Costco for him, and I usually take either Tootsie Pops or my cinnamon jawbreakers. If I HAVE to have something else I usually take in Turkey Jerky or Rice Chex cereal in zippie bags!

Oooo...I love getting popcorn. I sometimes base the movie I'm going to see on whether the theater has good popcorn or not. DH and I will share a small bag, complete with the butter-flavored grease! :D  He will get a pop and I will get a water, though now one place sells slushies. Mmmmmm, cherry slushie...;) :D  :D

When I was a kid, I loved eating movie popcorn during a show, but these days, I prefer watching the movie food-free and then having a nice meal afterwards.

People rattling their candy wrappers and crunching really loud bothers me to no end, which is why I usually watch movies at home on our big screen TV with surround sound :)

We usually don't get food at the movie theater. If we do, it's popcorn.

We have two local artsy movie theaters, owned by the same people, and they do fresh popcorn with real butter. You can choose to have freshly grated parmesan cheese on your popcorn... yum! They also have fabulous brownies and homemade cookies, among other goodies. At those theaters, we get food.

I was at the movie theater just last night, and I cannot get over how much they charge for snacks. My friend bought a small popcorn and a medium drink (which, of course, held enough soda for a small army) and it cost $7.25! It's insane!

I'm like many of you - I bring my own snacks if I think I'm going to want something. Not only is it cheaper, but I don't run the risk of eating TOO much. The size of the candy boxes at the movie theater probably holds 4 or 5 servings, and I never stop until it's all gone, regardless of the amount! I should probably work on exercising my Self-Control Muscle... ;)

Gertdog,

I just noticed that you are from Ithaca! I was just up there last weekend for my graduation from IC -- I got my Master's in Speech-Language Pathology. I could not BELIEVE the weather. We were freezing up there on top of the hill. I hope Cornell graduates are faring better this weekend.

I'm living in Oklahoma right now (long story) but I'll be moving back to Upstate NY for the summer, and hopefully then over to Boston in the fall. I miss Ithaca so much, so I was just really glad to see that you are also from there.

I love snowcaps! However, I'm opposed to paying $4 for them, and it's not too good for my diet to buy the half-pound portion they sell at the theater. I buy a box elsewhere and bring it in my purse.

Varaile...I read your post and knew right away you must be from MN! I'm originally from Minneapolis and miss it terribly...hoping to move back there soon (DH is looking for a job).

PS - can anyone tell me how to pull a quote from a previous post? People do it all the time, but I can't seem to figure out how.

:) At the bottom right side of your post there is a button "quote" that I clicked on. That's all there is to it! I deleted the parts of your post that I didn't want to show and left what I did want. I'm not very good or experienced at any of this BB fancy stuff, so I'm sure someone else could tell you how to do multiple quotes or other things.

This thread is making me HUNGRY and want movie popcorn, fountain soda (which I love!) and all the other "bad" yummy stuff too!!

:) Katie

We don't get to the theatre very often anymore (personally I'd rather wait for most of the movies to come out in video than waste $16 on a crappy show). But when we do see something worth watching, we usually smuggle our own snacks in (DH loves chocolate and I love sweet tarts or licorice).

One of the things I miss about the East Coast theatres is the bulk candy that they sell, you can buy as much or as little as you want. DH always went for the chocolate coated goodies and I always went for the gummy type things (no fat). They don't sell bulk candy in the theatres here.

Woo-hoo...I did it! Thanks, Katie! :)
