We are having our next CL supper club meeting this weekend and our theme is appetizers, and desserts of course!(Our club doesn't cook together, we all bring a dish already made. When we decided to make appetizers someone had suggested that we play some sort of game to entertain us. Which was a great idea but we were unsure of what kind of game would be good and that everyone would enjoy. Any ideas? T.I.A

Trivial pursuit, scatergories, pictionary, taboo, OR a cool murder mystery game where everyone is assigned a "roll". My inlaws did that several years back and they said it was a blast. you can buy them at any game store!! Have fun (ps let me know what you do and how it goes...maybe our supper club can do it sometime)

Those are great ideas, thanks girls! I'm sure if that type of game was what she was talking about but those would be great too.

I am such a game person, so I just wanted to suggest some more, not to bombard you with ideas! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif I'd like to second Scattergories and Taboo, but Fictionary is also a blast; if you guys play cards, Bridge is so much fun, and Risk I love, too.

If there are enough people in your supper club, bunko is always a blast!

OH! I love Bunko! I have been in the same group for 4 years now, with mostly the same members, it's really a no brainer, so you can visit with each other while playing!

There is a new game at Blockbuster that involves watching a movie 1 minute at a time and playing a board game of some sort based on questions about the movie. I haven't played it yet but it would be something different that no on will have played, probably doesn't involve much in learning to play and would be good for those who might not be trivia buffs and such.

My new favorite game is called Cranium. It's available at Starbucks and also on Amazon.com. It's kind of a combo of Pictionary, charades, Trivial Pursuit and other games. You might have to draw (like Pictionary) or draw with your eyes shut, or use modeling clay (included) to sculpt something for our team to guess. Or you might have to hum a tune or do an impression of a famous person. It's a lot of fun! You play in teams and it's a great ice breaker.

If you're looking more for get-to-know-you games, here's a few suggestions.

You can have everyone write down a little known fact about themselves on a small piece of paper. You pass a basket with these facts around and everyone reads one. As each fact is read, the guests try to fit the fact with a person in the room. Once all the facts have been read you go through the list to see what everyone guesses, with the correct person fessing up. It's a lot of fun and you learn some very interesting things about everyone!

Another decent game (the one above is my favorite) is to write the names of famous people on pieces of paper. Attach one of these pieces of paper to the back of each guest. Then the guests have to guess who they are by asking yes or no questions from the other guests about their famous person.

I know there are others, but these are two that I can remember off the top of my head. A good get-to-know-you board game is Loaded Questions. A question is asked of everyone (such as "If you were invisible, what would you do?"), everyone writes their answers and then you have to match the answers to the person.

Have fun!

Here's another idea. We used to play a game in college called "Dictionary". It's basically the game Balderdash, but without the ready-made game. What you do is take a word from the dictionary that no one knows the meaning of. Since it's a cooking club - it would be fun to take cooking terms, names of dishes etc (try going to epicurious.com and look in their Dictionary).

The person who looks up the word writes on a sheet of paper the actual definition while the others write what they think it might mean (be creative/funny). Then the person who wrote the correct answer, collects the papers and reads them out loud. Everyone guesses what they think is the correct definition. A point goes to everyone who guesses the correct answer, and a point goes to anyone whose answer was guessed as the correct one (except for the person who wrote the correct answer from the dictionary). Take turns being the one who writes the correct definition.

Hope that makes sense! Have fun.

LSB,
I love that game! We used to play it all the time, with the dictionary, with my mom's and dad's families. We called it "Fictionary" though. Don't they just find a way to make everything commercial?
