Just curious,

How many people are you cooking for?

I cook for 2 adults and 3 kids.

I feel that I am always grocery shopping, always cooking and cleaning. Still love cooking but it takes a lot of time when you work full time.

So, I am waiting for your answers.

I cook for just two people, though DBF and his appetite should probably count for 3.

Generally, I cook for two (DH & I). Temporarily, it's one, but I still voted two. :) But I probably should have just voted one since DH doesn't always like to eat what I cook.

Usually just for DH and me. Although sometimes I cook for the dog too.

I wanted to answer 1.5. I chose just 1. When my son is at college, I'm just cooking for myself...when he's home and will let me know when he'll be eating at home, I cook for him too. Unfortunately, between his job and my schedule and his lack of letting me know when he'll be home, he usually fends for himself.

Usually it is just me but I put down 2 because I consider lunch and occasionally I'll share w/roomie.

LOL slknight! The dogs around here seem to think that I cook for them too! They love to hang out when I'm cooking in the event that I drop something.

Just DH and I. But every Tuesday my parents eat dinner with us.

I said 2 -- DF and me. But with the way we eat you'd think there were more people here for dinner some nights! We haven't quite got that portion control thing going, so most CL recipes list serving sizes that are smaller than our appetites. Hey at least it frees us from eating the same leftovers all week long so we can try more new recipes! :)

I said 4, since there are 4 of us in our house, but that doesn't mean that it's how many I cook for. Sometimes (most times) my kids (especially older son) does not want what we are eating and will eat a PB sandwich instead, or cereal. Since he gets it himself, that's not cooking in my book.

When I can convince my friends to come over and eat, then it's 3, but typically it's just little ol' me, so I voted 1. Especially since one of the friends I cook for is a steak and potatos kinda guy; he won't come near anything green

However, in a few weeks, I'll have a house guest who's practically vegetarian (just like me) and experimental, so then it'll be 2 :)

I find I'm not as ambitious in cooking just for myself, but I'm working on it...

There are just the two of us (DH & I) but I often invite our next door neighbor (Dh's ex-girlfriend!!)...
and though there are only 2 of us in the household, I usually cook as if I were feeding 4-6 :o :o :o --that includes how much food/grocery stuff I buy!!!!! YIKES!!!:o

I voted for 4 because that is an average. I have 5 children and only 1 still lives at home. I also have an exchage student living here (but only for a couple more weeks). The college kids come home often and bring friends. I would say that I can be known to cook for up to 8 or more as likely as 4 on any given day.

Usually just me, but on weekends for 2 (me and DBF). I do like to entertain, and I also have a big family so it can increase a lot! When I lived at home still, there were 6 of us.

My SO and I usually just cook for ourselves, but I love also cooking for my family and friends, so that number can increase a lot. :) We like to make extras for lunch leftovers, though, so tend to make fairly large quantities.

Just DH and me. But for some reason I have an issue making enough food for 2 people. I always seem to make enough for at least 4 people. I blame it on my grandmother. She is italian, and was an army wife. So she didn't know how to cook anthing small. She taught my mother and my mother taught me.

One good part, lunch is always good because of the leftovers.

Currently just me, but for the past 4 years it's been me and DF, and that will be our status again in 2 months... except he'll have been promoted to DH.

I said 2. I cook for dh and myself. I didn't realize we were counting dogs too, I do cook for our Silky Terrier about once every 4-5 weeks. 5 pounds of meat, some veggies and assorted other good things will last her that long.
I'm bad at just cooking for two so mostly I've given up and freeze leftovers and then I plan on extra soup or spaghetti sauce so I don't have to do those as often.

I said 4, myself DH, DS, DD & puppy. Sometimes DS doesn't eat the dinners prepared, he says there's just too many colors ;) My DD has come along way, she now likes our healthy dinners. She use to say how come we just can't have a quick & simply meal (pizza, grill cheese ) why does dinner have to be such a big deal? I always tell her that dinner, & cooking is what we truly enjoy doing after working. Alittle music, glass of vino, pretty table aah so good.

I voted for 2 but it's more like 2.5. Me, DH and two cats. Alright, I'm not exactly cooking for 2 cats but it does require kitchen tools :)

I cook for myself, DH and 3 sons so I voted 5, but it had been for 6 for several years before the oldest son moved out in March of this year. He really ate the most, so I really don't have to make nearly as much as I used to, but I still do because it is such a habit!
Now the 13-yr-old is starting to eat....I think he is going to have another growth spurt soon.

Just two for now. Julia is only four months old. I do "make" her food though. Well, my body makes it anyway. :)

Two, and I find the leftovers pile up quickly... so I never plan too far ahead. On the plus side, packing lunch the next day is never too difficult.

Usually just DH and myself during the week but frequently on weekends I'll cook for 4 -6 if we're entertaining or make one dish to put toward a meal we eat with our families (and that can be anywhere from eight adults, one baby on my side to ten adults, three kids on his side).

Even though I only cook for two. I usually use a recipe that makes four servings for the two of us . . . DH eats a lot (and has the most amazing metabolism - it drives me crazy) and sometimes I manage to have some leftovers for lunch the next day which is great. Or I'll cook a big batch of something and save the other half for another night . . . or several nights if it's something like soup, chili, lasagna, eggplant parm.

We cook for two, at least for six nights out of the week. We always have Sunday dinner - we'll either invite friends to join us or go to a dinner party.

I voted for 3, although there are 4 at home now. My son has very strange eating habits, and has been living on peanut butter since he was 1-1/2 (he's now 16). His diet consists of peanut butter sandwiches or large bowls of cheerios. In the last 6 months, he has branched out, and now likes to make pancakes for himself. That's pretty much it. And I don't fix any of it for him.

My daughter will be going to college in the fall, so I will be back to cooking for 2, although I don't intend to scale anything down in quantity. My DH and I both like to eat leftovers, and it will be nice to fixing dinners for the one person who loves everything I fix. Not to mention being able to do some of the things I might have skipped because of DD's preferences.

Val- I was thinking the same thing. I was torn between 3 and 4. There's my DH, DS, and myself. But my 5 month old DD gets her food from me too!

I just cook for DH and me because of our off beat schedules (we work the graveyard shift) I usually cook in batches on my weekends and I normally make 4 or more servings unless it's something that won't benefit from refrigeration. Sometimes I'll share with my bird but she prefers chewing on paper or the cabinet :D

Gosh, Susan, I think my DH is related to your DS!! That's exactly what my DH has been living off since I left -- PB sandwiches, cereal, and pancakes.

Well, it's one thing to be eating that when there's no one to cook for you; it's another to have it be the entire repertoire of your diet (aside from chips and sweets which I limit his access to—and even there he's picky).

When he was little they told me he would grow out of it; however, he's only grown up with it (5' 10" and 125 lbs). :p

I voted 2 but really should have voted 3....oh yeah the dog.
He has not eaten dog food since he was a wee little pup. He has grown up on chicken mainly with rice, cottage cheese, macaroni and cheese.
I usually make him a roasted rosemary chicken or tarragon chicken; but sometimes like last night he had barbecued boneless chicken breasts. .. and no my DH and I do not eat his food (too good for us).

Once I met Frank Perdue and told him my dog only ate perdue chicken. He looked at me a little strangely. Why?

My dog is 18 so I did something right.

I'm really surprised at these results! I had no idea that so many of us were cooking for 1 or 2.

I see there are several of us who cook for our dogs. I should show this to DH, because he thinks I'm weird! But he's gotten used to asking me if the containers of food in the fridge are for us or the dog.;) :D

I am amazed at how many people cook for just 2! I thought so many folks on this board cooked for at least 4! :D

I cook for two, but I am comfortable cooking for 8-12 people also. I grew up in a family of 6, so it was difficult for me learning how to cook less!

Well, have DH and 3 DSs so I voted for 5. DS#1 isn't here but once a month, maybe. DS#2 left today to work as a wrangler at a horse camp, he'll be home between sessions. And DS#3 is getting better about his pickiness but still has some quirks. Even with all that I still cook for 5 and about 2 or 3 times a week we have friends over (she doesn't cook much and he works nights so they come over when he's off). Once a week we usually get together with the whole gang sometimes I cook the entire meal and sometimes it's potluck.

For many, many years I cooked for 6. Though my kids have all been out on their own and I am now alone, I can't get over the habit of shopping for a large family.
And I still seem to make lots of recipes for 4 (feed a bachelor son pretty regularly. Even tho I send home a "care package "with him,
mine is still the best fed freezer in town !

I voted 5- DH and I are temporarily living w/ my parents, so I'm a stay at home mom of a 1 1/2 yr old and since I"m the one at home, I cook for everyone in return I have free babysitting service whenever we need it! Its a lovely arrangement.
DH and dad are big eaters so I'm always doubling recipes; I usually enjoy trying out stuff on all of them and then taking a poll as to what they thought of it. Sometimes though I miss the simplicity of cooking for just DH, DD and I.

I usually cook for 3. My husband, our teenage son and myself. When the family gets together for holidays, my sister and I make up a great team and cook for 10 + random guests. Now that My husband and I are on Weight Watchers, cooking has become a little more challenging.

I voted for just me - although I'd love to cook for more (I love to try new things...and leftovers can last sooo long.)
I do cook for my SO probably several times a month, and he really likes it when I do AND he also loves leftovers (I can usually con him, oh did I say that, I mean give him a medly of items I've recently made...so that they don't turn green on me) - I love that!

it's just me and my fuzzy keeshond (she only gets table scraps at holidays though). so i cook for myself most of the time.

i cook for DBF & myself maybe twice a week when our schedules permit us to get together. we usually see each other 4 days out of the week, 2 of which i cook, 1 night he will cook & the other we will go out to eat.

about once a month i have friends & family over for a nice dinner.

I have my DH and 2 growing boys. My oldest is 12 and he is really starting to try new things. For years all he ate was Frosted Flakes and Skyline ( a local chili) It's gratifying to me that he will now at least try things that I make. My youngest is a human garbage truck......he eats about anything!!!:p

I cook for 2 adults and three children, but it feels as though I do dishes for 10!!!!

The rule in our house is you eat what I (help I'm fighing a 1 year old of control of the keyboard!!!!!:D :D ) prepare or you starve. When I grew up we would have three different meals going on and if we had fast food, which sadly was often, we'd stop at five different places. So my rule is if you don't like it you can wait for breakfast. If you're really hungry, eat a banana!

  Horrifying, huh.
