I'm looking for a light recipe for bread stuffing without too many exotic ingredients for my Thanksgiving dinner. I'd like to stuff my bird with it and to have some extra to bake in the oven. My family likes our old recipe, but it's loaded with butter. Time for a change!! Thanks. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Our family favorite was loaded with butter, too. A few years ago I just reduced it, using one tablespoon to saute the onion and celery in and added enough reduced fat stock to make it moister. And I figure the stuff in the bird is getting it's share of fat from the bird but the casserole part I baste a couple of times while it's in the oven.

I love our family bread stuffing, and I can't imagine Thanksgiving without it. When it's my turn to make the stuffing, I cut back on the butter, and nobody notices the difference.

Stuffing is my favorite dish for Thanksgiving. I participated in the CL poll on the home page (favorite dish for Thanksgiving), and I think the results (so far) are interesting:
--Dressing - 49%
--Turkey - 24%
--Mashed Potatoes - 18%
--Cranberries - 9%

I guess I'm not alone. Unless you voted for Turkey and your vote went to Dressing! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Maybe there should be a recount.
