I noticed this variety of apple last week at the farmers market because it was huge (we are talking like twice the size of a regular apple!). I bought one, and my verdict is...yyyuuuuummmmmyyyy! It has a sweet, crisp taste (gee, thus the name, huh????). It may be replacing the granny smith as my favorite apple! Has anyone else tried this?

I discovered these apples fall of 1999 and my family absolutely loves them. They too have become our favorite apple. However, our problem is that they are in very short supply in our area and we can only purchase them for a few short weeks. A lady at the apple orchard said the closest variety to a Honeycrisp is a Jonagold.

I haven't seen Honeycrisp, but I'll watch for them. We don't get as many varieties of apples as we did in CA, where many would show up at the farmers' markets or you could go pick them. I love Johnagolds, and I have missed the Gravensteins that grew nearby.
