I have a question on Mastercook. How do the latest issue recipes get into your Mastercook? When someone asks for a recipe or posts one it says "Exported from Mastercook"....can you download them from somewhere? Believe it or not, I am computer literate, but this has me stumped!! Thanks!

Hope this help, if you need more info just ask.

Importing Recipes Using Auto-FillUse Import Assistant to import non-MasterCook recipes you receive in a file, by e-mail, or find on a Web page.

To use Import Assistant to import a recipe using Auto-Fill:

1. Open the recipe you want to import using an editor like Word or Notepad.

2. Check the header text in the recipe you want to import for the format information.

3. Use the Preferences command to configure the Import Assistant recipe format.

4. Open Import Assistant from the Tools menu.

5. Copy the recipe text from the editor to the Import Assistant text box. (you can copy directly from this board, I use copy and paste)

6. Select the entire recipe in the Import Assistant text box and click the AUTO-FILL button.

7. Auto-Fill will attempt to fill the text box with the new recipe automatically placing all the information into the proper fields.

8. Click the SAVE RECIPE button to save your recipe if you are satisfied with the results. If Auto-Fill did not work correctly, you can undo the Auto-Fill using the right-click menu in Import Assistant. Then you can try a different procedure to import the recipe.

9. Click the NEW RECIPE button if there are more recipes to import. The Import Assistant text box can hold several recipes.

10. When you are finished using the Import Assistant, click the DONE button.

OK, I did some searching on my own. (Duh, I used the Search function up top!) If one owns Mastercook you can get downloads from www.cookn.com for 6.98 per month. You can also get these downloads into their own proprietary software. And their software is only 6.98 to start out with! Does anyone who uses these downloads NOT subscribe to CL and just get the downloads?

I get the downloads every month, but I also order the magazine. I think the main reason is that the software downloads have no pictures. The pictures make the dishes come alive for me.

Hi Swquilts,

I guess I was beside the point, here. I don't buy cookpacs but from what I read, people seems to like them.

I noticed you lost 23lbs on WW. Are you still doing the program. I am a lifetimer. Love that program.

Helene, Yes....I guess I'm still on WW. I've sort of stalled out. Long story, we're building a new home and currently living in a mobile home. I have NO room to cook! Plus we're so busy right now, doing stuff around the new place that we've been eating out more and not eating the "right" stuff. I'm trying to maintain and get back on a losing track soon! I'm still contemplating that software though!

Can you help me out here? I can not figure out what it is talking about when they say check the header text in the recipe.. what are they taling about? Also when they say open the recipe using the word pad do they mean just copy and paste it to word pad and make a file to use ? I just got a master cook and am playing with it. The most wonderful individual who helped me get it was right when she said the book was not very useful as far as directions go. Some of us need more explicit directions. One can not assume that because one owns a computer one knows how to use it! I managed to get a recipe in by useing the more time consuming method of Move to recipe but I sure would like to be able to figure out how to use auto fill!

I'm not sure if this is the info you're looking for, but this is how I import a recipe using the import assistant. Highlight and copy your recipe. Go to the cookbook you want the recipe to be in. Click on the import assistant. Then I just paste the recipe in and make sure the title is at the top, hit enter twice, all the ingredients, hit enter twice, directions (hitting enter twice between steps if desired). Then I highlight it all and click auto fill. Then I clean it up, if it needs it, and enter in any notes, serving suggestions, source of recipe, etc.

When I use autofill, I make sure that there is one empty line only between the recipe title and the ingredient list (make sure you take out the "Ingredients" header, if it's there), and the same between the ingredient list and the directions. Then press Ctrl+A, which should highlight all the text, then hit Auto-fill. (I picked up this handy tip on this BB, so I'm just doing my civic duty and passing it on :) ). Hope it works for you!

I guess the other girls answered your questions. Good idea to space between title and ingredients. Also between ingredients and directions.

I have a good friend in NB. She lives outside of Lincoln.

I am living in Lincoln Heights, close to Fredericton.

What is the address of your friend?

I'm at work and I don't have her address with me. Her last name is Pelletier and her DH is a Math teacher at the local high school. I do remember her saying about going to the big city of Fredricton! Great gal, I met her on a quilting chat board.

Diane, importing with import assistant is pretty easy once you realize that it will read certain lines and spacings as signals to go to the next segment. You have to have one clean line between the title and the ingredients list and one clean line between the ingredients and the directions. If there is a code or something you don't see, it could cause the recipe to all jump down to the instructions portion or the ingredients list to be lost somewhere.

Getting ingredients in their form for nutritional analysis will also take a little getting used to, or you can just go around thinking the ice cream has 25 calories and that casserole has 4,592 calories per serving! ;) Have fun!
