Any suggestions for good restaurants, coffee houses, etc. in Lake Tahoe? I will be going for a long weekend and eating most meals out. Looking for suggestions as I've only been there once. TIA
I hope you're in South Shore, otherwise I'm not going to be much help.
I highly recommend a place called The Waterwheel for Chinese (and believe it or not, some of the best sushi I've ever had.) Waterwheel is on the main drag (Highway 50) just past State Line on the Nevada side. Pass all the casinos headed for Incline, and it'll be on your right. I believe there's a Emergency care facility and a Burger King in the front, Waterwheel is in the back. If you like raw fish, the yellowtail is extraordinary. They make wonderful little fried shrimp, a wor won ton packed with all sorts of veggies and goodies, marvelous "gourmet vegetables" in a lightly garlicked sauce to name a few... Also, if you're into Mai Tais, they make a dandy...
For some of the best pizza I've ever had, I'll send you in the opposite direction (also Highway 50) to The Lake Tahoe Pizza Company. It's way at the end of town, past the "Y," (you'll have to make a left at the "Y" and head toward Kirkwood and the agricultural checkpoint. Lake Tahoe Pizza Company will be (I'm guessing here) about 1/4 mile from the "Y" on the right side of the street. Cute yellow chalet-style building with carved wooden bear statues out front, set back off the road a bit. The Mogul-Masher and Pesto Chips are WON-derful...
Right NEAR state line, on the lake side of the road and crammed between ski shops and souvenirs, you'll find Womack's Texas Barbecue. It's a tiny place with slow service and absolutely no frills, but boy can that man cook! Everyone goes for the ribs, but I'm a barbecue ham person myself. Have black-eyed peas, greens and all that good stuff. And a sweet potato pie to die for...
I have a couple of other hangouts, but one is pretty far (a Basque restaurant, down the Kingsbury grade and into Gardnerville, Nevada.) And a steak place in Zephyr Cove which I'm not sure is there anymore (Midnight Mine.)
Oh, and if you haven't had breakfast at Heidi's-- and you don't care about your waistline-- go for it.

Ditto. If you're lucky, you'll get a waitress named Rose. Order the Pigs in a Blanket.
This sounds like some sort of espionage thing to me...
Order anything. Breakfasts are great.
Oh, and Missi.... where ARE you...? (Missi lives there)

Nuh uh. I just personally have fond memories of the Pigs in a Blanket. Of course that also involves Jim's brother Stephen, and my 30th birthday, and the whole aura of the trip in general........;)

Goodness gracious Gail, are you sure you don't live here?!?!?!? You give the same suggestions I always give!!!!! :D
I'm sorry to report the sad closing of the Midnight Mine. It was a great place with a fun atmosphere, I'm sorry to have seen it go.
Ok, here's some more suggestions (ALL of the ones Gail mentioned are great, BTW)
Black Olive -- This is in Roundhill, NV, right off HWY 50. Ask any local where it's exact location is. Kind of pricey (of course this IS Tahoe) but SOOOO outstanding. Recently celebrated anniversary #1 there.
Tep's Villa Roma --- Outstanding Itailian food. Salad bar is killer. Try the Eggplant Rotini.
Lake Tahoe Brewery --- Stop by and get the beer sampler. If you don't get down to the Lake Tahoe Pizza Company for Pizza, order one up here. The Greek Salad pizza is a local favorite. Crust is made with the Bad *** Ale.
And I have to throw in Zephyr Cove Resort Restaurant because DH is the manager and he would kill me if I didn't mention it. It happens to be an excellent place and they have a huge deck that overlooks the lake (of course I AM a bit biased!!!) Try one of the nightly specials. Chances are it was made by my DH :)
P.S. If you aren't coming to south shore (shame on you! ;)), High Sierra lives in Incline Village and could help with the north shore. Maybe she will pop in.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I am going to be on the north shore - Tahoe City. Any ideas for that area? I'm unfamiliar with how far it is between the north side and south side.

ok, Tahoe City is a whole new ball game. It actually isn't that far from south shore, (maybe 45 min drive) and I would recommend coming here if you have time. I do know of a place over there called The Tahoe House-- Restaurant and Backerei. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, and it is a deli type place, but they make the most outstanding breads and sauces. I know there are a ton of little places along the highway there, but I don't get that way much so I don't have any other suggestions. Have a GREAT time in Tahoe! It's absolutely beautiful right now!!

Missi: SHE!!! How am I to explain this to my wife and four grown children?? javascript:smilie(':D')
Incline Village is our "second home" - we only spend several months a year there.
Sorry to report that my favorite restaurant (the Steak House in the Crystal Bay Club) is no longer opened for business. The Crystal Bay Club closed several weeks ago and is up for sale (for several $million you can buy this small casino).
We only occasionally eat out when in Tahoe. We recently tried the Hyatt's Lone Eagle Grill for the first time back in May. Both the service, food, and view of The Lake were very good.

North Lake Tahoe is actually my favorite spot. Garwoods is fun & has a great deck overlooking the lake. Also Sunsets. Both are the main highway between Tahoe City & Kings Beach. Steamers Pizza in Kings Beach is delicious too! Fireside (Firesign?) is a fabualous breakfast & lunch place. I still think about blackberry coffee cake I had there last summer. Have a wonderful time!

Garwoods is delic---, but there is a restaurant in (I guess it would be King's Beach, California side) right next to the Biltmore Hotel and Casino. Can't remember the name, but it is a little cabin that seats only about 8 tables. Fabulous food. DH and I would go there for b-days and anniversaries or just find any stupid reason to go.
I can't for the life of me remember the name of the place-----HighSierra?

Akairo: The restaurant you are referring to is Soule Domain.
BTW: If its on the California side, it is in Brockway; King's Beach is down the hill a little ways.
