Which do you prefer, soft and chewy cookies or crispy and crunchy cookies? I realize that your preference might depend on the type of cookie, so I'm just wondering about your general preference.
I really prefer soft, chewy cookies. Probably because that's the way my mom made them.:)

Chewy I suppose but honestly I'd rather chuck making the cookies and just eat the dough! I could easily give up cookies, but never cookie dough!

I like soft and chewy but I sure won't turn down a crispy one! :D

I should have made that an option! I LOVE the dough!:D

Depends. Love big, chewy oatmeal or chocolate chip cookies (or my fave, chocolate chip oatmeal!), but I like the very thin and crispy Moravian spice/sugar/lemon cookies. DH's great aunt makes them so thin they're translucent.

It depends for me too.
I love gingersnaps - am making them this weekend :), or a nice shortbread cookie. But, then again I love chewy chocolate cookies or oatmeal raisin.
Hard to say really except in all honestly, when is a cookie bad?

CHEWY! I LOVE when they taste like they're fresh from the oven...not to mention less crumbs when they are chewy over crunch....

You forgot cakey!!!!
I voted chewy. I do not like cookies that can crumble.

Yah, chewy! Like Mom's "Cowboy Cookies" -- Toll House are always too stone-like for me (speaking of which ---- please don't throw stones at me for saying that!!! :( ). I made chewy oatmeal-raisin from the New Joy of Cooking yesterday and they were a big hit at DBF's office. That said, who wants soft biscotti or sandies? Guess it does depend, to a degree....

Soft and chewy. But like others said, any cookie is better than no cookie. :)

I like almost all cookies crunchy! My dad and I are the same, and my mom and husband like soft. So when I make a batch I always leave the last sheet in for a minute or two longer. Dad likes them just before the burned stage! At least when I leave them in by accident I always have someone to eat them.

Definately soft and chewy... especially oatmeal raisin!!
Peggy
I do like soft and chewy best, but I like the edges to be a little crispy - I like the insides gooey, a little doughy. Although, as others have said, I wouldn't pass up a totally crispy cookie:)
And I too LOVE the dough - it's the best part!
A cakey cookie is the only one I wouldn't want - I really don' tlike cakey cookies and brownies at all.

I'm not really fond of cakey cookies, either. Maybe that's why I didn't think to include them in the poll.:o

Chewy. And if they're NOT chewy, I'll dunk 'em until they get suitably soft. :)

I voted soft and chewy. I think my all time favorite cookie is the Girls Scouts Samoas. I still have two boxes in the freezer for when I have a craving.

I definitely prefer my cookies crispy and crunchy! I'm a big fan of dipping cookies in warm drinks, so they need to be crispy and crunchy in order to hold up!
The dough is my favorite! I would actually prefer to eat cookies raw. My favorite is soft, not-too-spicy molasses cookies. However, in response to the poll, I would have to go with soft and chewy. I don't know about chewy though. I don't want to have to give my jaws a workout. I just like them very dense and doughy. I don't like cake-textured cookies at all, and I especially dislike crispy cookies (or any cookies) that leave a greasy or buttery residue on everything they touch.
I guess the comfort factor of sinking your teeth into a nice chewy cookie will tip the scales in that direction, but really it DOES matter what kind of cookie it is. Right now I have in my cookie jar some perfectly scrumptious thin and crunchy ginger thins from Sweden. They're just as satisfying as a good chewy cookie.

I love all cookies but prefer a crunchy cookie. My husband likes soft and chewy.

I live in a divided household!!!!!!!
DS and I LOVE soft, ooey, gooey, chewy cookies -- DD and DH love 'em crispy and hard as hockey pucks! It's a real problem!!! ;) (Not really! We just do half a batch one way, and half a batch the other way... but guess WHICH half is usually BIGGER??!!! :) )

I voted "Chewy" for just plain eating. But, if I want to dunk them in my milk or coffee, then, of course, they must be crunchy first. But, then, of course, they become chewy. So, CHEWY, it is!!

I voted for liking them equally because it depends on the cookie. I like my chocolate chip cookies crunchy. But I have a recipe for chocolate, cream-cheese spritzes that I don't use real butter in because they come out crunchy & hard. When I use margarine they have a soft, melt in your mouth kind of texture. Yuummm!

Me, too! Gotta have 'em soft. Sometimes I microwave them for 5-10 seconds.

Depends on my mood, the type of cookie and, oh, the phase of the moon.
Shortbread = crispy and crumbly
Chocolate Chip = chewy
Peanut Butter = crispy
Molasses = soft and cakey
Double Chocolate = chewy
Oatmeal = I go both ways on this one. Depends on recipe.
An Ode to Cookie
Ooegy gooey, soft and chewy
that's the way I like'm
But if it crunches, i'll still take bunches
Cookies are good to eat!
Alas, cakey cookies make me weep
My stomach churns sad and gray,
Besides those ones, the vote's a sweep!
I can eat them everyday :)
