i just had to share because it was such a huge accomplishment!
you know those turning spice racks you get that have like 16 spices. at least 12 you have never heard of or used and the rack sits useless in your kitchen (was in mine at least). well last night i emptied everyone of those bottles and washed them. then i took 16 spices out of my cabinet that i use and refilled and labeled all the bottles! so now the spices i use are at hand.. no more searching for them and my cupboard has way more room in it for other stuff!
2 hours to do!

Buddie,
You are an inspiration!! Organizing my spices is one of those things I never get around to doing. Such an accomplishment... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif Think of all the time you will save. I am inspired. Maybe this weekend....

That is so wonderful! I love organization. I swear I have that "as good as it gets" disorder (obsessive compulsive). So after I read your post and your accomplishment it made me even more inspired!!!

Buddie,
I love your spice rack story! I have one of those too but it's only a year old, so I'm not inspired to clean them all out yet...
I have to make a similar confession along the lines of obsessive-compulsive behavior... Last night I organized all my issues of CL, tearing out the "recipes" page at the back of each and creating a 3-ring binder of them all in plastic sleeves for quick reference! Then, to add to my insanity, I put yellow stickies with the month/year on each issue so I can pull it out quickly and not have to keep the magazines in perfect order. I'm hoping maybe someone else out there has done this too so I'm not the only one! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif

sk8grl,
You're not alone! I, too, tear out the recipes I want to keep each month and organize them in a 3-ring binder. I do it by category, though, not by month, and without the index page. I have them divided up into vegetable side dishes, vegetarian main dishes, fish and other seafood, desserts (I might mention that there are two of these pages since CL is so heavy on desserts), one for main dish salads, stuff like that. I must admit, it's one of my favorite things to do! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Buddie,
I have a spice drawer. I ordered special 4 oz jars that would not be too tall. I made labels on the computer! The jars start with Allspice and end with White pepper. Now who has OCD?

Buddie,
If you do, my only piece of advice (if you use the mini stickies like I did)--is to put the sticky on the BACK page of the magazine, not the front. I realized after I had done them all the other way that whenever I open the magazine, the flap sticking out folds up and then is impossible to read when I put the magazine back! The only tricky thing is you have to mark the date on the "sticky" side of the sticky.
OK, I've obviously spent WAY too much time thinking about this!! But if it helps you--it's worth it! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

FoodGirl - I'm a spice drawer girl as well http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif The island in my kitchen has a set of drawers right next to the gas cooktop, so it's soooo easy to get to. I found a cool little organizer thing at Extra Space that allows you to put your spices in at an angle. This let's me see pretty easily if I'm running out of something.

Hey, I tore out my recipes as well and put them in a photo album. My husban thinks that I need more to do.
Then, I took the magazines with the rest of the recipes to the gym.(really there were quite a few left as I write in my favorite recipes in a blank cookbook) It was pretty interesting because I left five magazines (from last year) on the magazine rack. I then did my workout (about 30 minutes) I came back and every last magazine was gone.
Cooking light is really a hit!!!!
