Party Ideas

My son is planning in joining the military in January. I'd like to have a party for relatives & friends as a going away party for him. I'm trying to come up with a great/funny menu. Any suggestions? I've thought about mash pototoes. Anything plain but tasty. I'm brain dead. But I thought if the menu kinda reflected the stereo type military menu it would be fun.

There is always the infamous **** on a Shingle (I censored myself http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif ). Also known as Chipped Beef on Toast.
