They are a winner!! Easy to make and remind me of the ones that used to be popular, but so high in fat!! This is great for company, too.

Agree wholeheartedly - and they freeze well!

I made the apricot bars and found they were a little too sweet (I think it was the type of apricot preserves I used). Also, the granola topping did not stick, and it kept falling off all over the place. Anyone else have this problem?

Julie,
Yes, the topping wouldn't stay on mine either! I them twice, but the second time around I used raspberry jam! Yum!

I did not have any trouble with the topping. I used Healthy Choice low fat granola cereal and crushed it a little before I put it on the bars. Also, I used Smuckers low sugar apricot jam.

I thought this was worth bringing back to everyone's attention. I doubled the recipe and plan to freeze half. Thanks for the original feedback.

Julie, I agree that the apricot bars turned out too sweet. Yes, they freeze well, but we only froze them because they were too sweet and we could only handle eating them once in a while.

Sounds like low sugar jam is the way to go.

I didn't see the recipe in the Oct 2000 issue, what issue is it from? If I love dried apricots, do you think I would enjoy these?

Christ1ne, this was from the July issue.
I used Smuckers apricot preserves, regular. Although on the sweet side, apparently not too sweet for us. But I agree, one piece is enough. Great way to keep a grip on your dessert intake.

I'm bringing this back to the top because I made these the other day and have to say I'm really confused now. I read all the comments--some had trouble with the crumby topping and some didn't. After the butter mixture is all mixed up and you start adding flour, the directions say to beat until moist. I have to say it never became moist. It was dry the whole time and no way was the topping going to stay on. I love the taste but wonder what one could do to the topping.

Another thing, why do you supposed the serving size is so small. Did anyone actually cut it into 24 pieces?

I just had a thought...I used that Sorrel Ridge all fruit stuff instead of the preserves. Maybe it wasn't as gooey as preserves under the crumb topping. Still the crumb topping wasn't anywhere near moist.
Oh well.

Did anyone else make this since the last post? Would like to hear your comments.

Hi Norma,

I tried them one more time with raspberry jam instead of apricot, and had the same problem with the topping not sticking. Personally I will not make these again.
