I didn't add the syrup, and I think it was okay; the crust was fine. I must say, I gobbled a piece before it was completely cool (having chocolate cravings all day). My crust was still a bit too moist. I think that it is due to its thickness. There was almost too much crust, so next time, I will use a bit less brownie mix, and it may cook better.
All around, I like it. Cured the craving.
