My mom and I are going to have a little bonding for my birthday dinner. I'm making chicken pie and having my mom help me with the biscuit dough (because someone replaced my last batch of biscuits with rocks when I wasn't looking).

So for dinner we're making a chicken pie but what goes with chicken pie for dessert? I'm saving the chocolate cake for dessert with my DILs for the next week so I'm looking for something else to make. I have one egg in my fridge and I don't want to buy another pack if I can help it. I saw a great looking recipe for blackberry dumplings in one of the SL annual cookbooks but would that be a bit OTT having two dishes with biscuit dough?

There will be about 6 of us to plan for. Well, 7 if you count the bun in DS' oven.

I'm not the best dessert planner. Just give me a chocolate bar and I'll be satisfied...

Why don't you do a blackberry crisp? The July issue has some fruit crisp recipes. Then again, you could just do a blackberry pie -- but then you have yet another pie and more dough. A crisp would be different. Maybe you could serve it with some homemade ice cream?

I'd vote for a crisp, too. I prefer crisps to cobblers cause I love the oatmeal in them... yum.

Yesterday I made the Blueberry Crisp from the July 2000 CL (cover recipe), and it was very good. Nice crunchy topping and not too sweet. Crisps are great because they are EASY and not to heavy. Homemade ice cream is great too, though, if you are one of the homemade ice cream fans on the BB (like me!). You could do both, as Claire suggests, yum! :D

The Aug '02 Bon Appetit has a bunch of recipes for peaches. I love fresh peaches!

A crisp does sound good and I do have some oatmeal begging to be used. It's also lighter than two busuit type dishes.

All I'm planning on putting on the side are some green beans, a cucumber salad (one of those with the vinegar and sugar, yum!) and maybe some sliced, fresh tomatoes (heirloom if I can find some).

Thanks for the great ideas!
