I had to plug this one. I bought it a month ago, and I've tried a few of the recipes out. This woman knows her desserts. My friends can't tell it's low-fat. In fact they say, "Low-fat? Well, they're tasty anyhow."
I've kept to simple recipes, but there are ones I'm waiting for a special occasion to try like her cheescakes and desserts using soy.

I've made Rocky Mountain brownies, which were great--I wouldn't add marshmallows because they're sweet enough. Made them on the weekend for a friend's birthday. He's the one who commented that they tasted good despite being low-fat (not a plus to him).
I've made oatmeal crispy lace cookies which were fabulous. I'd serve these anytime. They have a nice delicate texture. They were also super easy.
I've made cappucino chip muffins which are also great. It's a muffin spiked with a bit of coffee -- an adult treat. The texture is a bit spongy, I think I'd use buttermilk next time.
Now that the heat's broken, I'll be baking more.
I like how easy her recipes are. They're low-fat but you don't miss the fat. I find CL dessert recipes often taste low-fat. CL seems like a magazine put out by cooks, not bakers. Rose Reisman is a baker.

I like this book a lot, too. I made the orange apple sour cream coffee cake today, and glazed it with a mixture of apple cider and sugar, and it is so moist and good! :) Definitely a keeper. Actually, I have yet to hear of/make anything bad out of this book yet!

Actually, there are a few recipes I wasn't crazy about. Orange chocolate squares with cream cheese icing (save the cream cheese for the cream cheese brownies) and the pumpkin oatmeal bars, which were bland. I think she's best at doing recipes that seem very rich like chocolate brownies and cheesecakes.

Hi foodfiend!

I hadn't seen those recipes yet, and after your reviews, don't think I'll be trying them! ;) Thanks for the info. This coffeecake is a winner, though. It's not TOO light, but definitely lighter than some coffee cakes out there. I'm going to have a wedge with my coffee soon! :)

I agree with you that some of the strengths in that book seem to be things like squares. I haven't tried any of the cookies, and don't think I will any time soon, since I'm not usually too big on light cookies.

Yes, the nutritional info is included with each recipe.

I've had this book for a couple of years, and have given several away as gifts. It is my standard dessert book (except for CL and BB recipes). her cheesecakes are really very good - The coconut cream one is subtle and decadent. The cookies are also very good - her gingersnaps are now my standard recipe.

Another aspect of the book is that she has included 2 specialty chapters: Soy desserts and passover desserts. While I don't cook with those restraints, I suspect others might really like to have those sections.

Oh .. and there was some kind of apple/cream cheese / pecan tart thing in phyllo do that was really wonderful too. Can't remember the name.

I think it's called apple phyllo tart.

My favorites, and the favorites of my friends, include cream cheese brownies (add 1 tsp instant coffee for extra kick), gingersnaps and mocha coffee cake. Whenever I show up with the brownies at work, I become VERY popular.

The author is Canadian which may explain why you can't find it on the US Amazon site.

Plus, here's her website for you all - http://www.rosereisman.com/

Sneezles ....amazon.ca has the book for $20.80 Canadian which would be about $14 US. They have free shipping with an order of $39.00 Canadian so maybe you can find a second book to order. $40 Canadian would be approx. $28 US. Hope that helps.

In general, how do these recipes compare (nutritionally-speaking, esp. fat and calories!) to CL's? It's sounding like a must-have!!! :)

I made this cake today and it is excellent! Idid find the orange flavour to be quite subtle though. So moist and just the right amount of sweetness.

I know someone is going to want the recipe so if anyone has it in MC already....if not I'll type it up.
