View Full Version : Sex and the City fans?

Just wondering how other Sex and the City fans are enjoying the new season. I am not enjoying it at all! The story lines aren't interesting, Miranda could not seem to care less about her son, and could they make Carrie look any uglier? I have found this season very disappointing so far!

I've been disappointed as well. I totally agree with you about Miranda. And what was that eye shadow on Carrie?

I've only seen 2 out of the 3 new episodes this season. I missed the one laste week -- what happened with Samantha and Richard last week?? I tuned in last night and they were back together and she's wearing some big gawdy ring! Anyway, I agree it hasn't been as good as previoue seasons so far, but I'm not giving up on it just yet. I don't care much for Carrie's new look (I know SJP is pregnant and they're trying to hide it, but she's been wearing the ugliest shirts!)or her anti-dating attitude. And I was so surprised at how Miranda couldn't wait to leave her new baby, I thought most mothers were usually worried about leaving their newborns for the first time, but she never even phoned to see how he was doing. I thought the first episode was funny though when Carrie kept seeing everyone's boobs :D

I thought the first show this season was hysterical, I was so-so with the second one, and liked last night's a little better. It's like they're in the process of setting up the next story lines. They really needed to get rid of Richard (who wanted to see Samantha tied down to someone!!)...and Charlotte has just gotten a little too "old maidish" (the cards last night seemed to be at a perfect time...what in the world has she been wearing?!?) I *REALLY* want Aidan to come back. Now, *THAT* was some wonderful eye-candy every Sunday night!! Miranda definitely seems a little too distant from the baby. The maid seems more interested in showing off how cute Brady is than Miranda! I still love the show though. I just hope they pick up over the next few weeks.
By the way, how many shows are there this season? I had heard 5...and then I heard 8. I know there won't be as many shows as there normally would be because SJP is pregnant and they're not writing it into the show. Anyone know???

I haven't been a longtime fan (just been watching re-runs over the past year or two)- hope you don't mind if I comment anyway. I loved the first episode this season but have been feeling dudded out since. Very disappointed last night. They're all just starting to annoy me. I did love Carrie's eyeshadow though...maybe it's just losing its edge?

I guess I should have specified that I am only interested in the comments of people who have watched every show from the beginning. ;) :) Of course I am kidding!
Kari - I'm racking my brain trying to remember exactly what happened with Richard and Samantha last week, and I can't. I just remember that he gave her the ring, but it wasn't an engagement ring.
I didn't realize that SJP was pregnant. And Melman, I so agree about Aidan! He has been my favorite character on the show so far. I couldn't believe Carrie didn't want to marry him. Although, he obviously is wrong for her. And I can see how this season is the logical progression of the first two - in the first season, they were just carefree, having fun, and then in the second season, they were still having fun, but starting to see that there was some consequences to their actions. And now in this season, the consequences are here. But I watch the show for the fun of seeing how these people who are so unlike me live. I don't want reality!

I heard there were going to be 8 new episodes this season. Usually I think there's 13, but SJP needed to cut it short due to her pregnancy. ITA about Aidan...that man is gorgeous and will definitely be missed on this show! (Did anyone see him in My Big Fat Greek Wedding? That movie is hilarious!!) Anyway, I heard they're bringing on a new love interest for Carrie, the actor is Ron Livingston. He's not bad to look at either. I'm just happy she's not trailing after Big anymore, although I guess he's supposed to be in one episode this season also. I'm just not a fan of them as a couple.

I also liked the first show of this season. Actually Richard and Samantha got back together (started to) on the first show. She went to see him at that bar and threw the drink in his face. Then on the second show she showed up at the diner and just stated, "I'm back with Richard". And he gave her that gross ring.
I have to admit that I liked the ending of last night's episode (3rd). I like the somber tone. But I did HATE Carrie's curly hair and heavy eye-shadow. Like my co-worker stated this morning, "the battered woman look isn't becoming on anyone". Usually I adore Charlotte's clothes, but she hasn't been impressing me recently. As for Miranda and the baby, yeah the distant thing is wearing thin. I just keep waiting for her to have that "bonding" moment.
And let me also admit that I like the whole Big thing. I wish they would get back together. Adian was cute and fun, but their whole relationship was silly.

Another vote for Carrie and Big :)

I guess I have the dissenting view here, because I've loved all 3 episodes. I think Miranda has had some great scenes so far and I really like that they're showing a mother feeling somewhat ambivalent and trying to negotiate what changes and what, if anything, stays the same after having a baby. I think Carrie looks fantastic; after the absolute fashion horrors of last season, her clothes are more streamlined and sophisticated while still being quirky. I love the emphasis on their friendship; while the end of last night's episode made it pretty clear that Carrie is contemplating a return to more of a relationship-with-men focus than she's pursued so far this season, I really appreciate a show that's willing to explore the importance and centrality of women's friendships in the way SATC has been in these 3 episodes, from Carrie's point of view. I think the show is just as edgy as ever, but it's being edgy about different things.
This is its 5th season, right? So it's not surprising that it seems a little different from earlier seasons. I think it's cool that it's trying to mature and develop and try out new things.

I agree - the first episode was fabulous, and it's been downhill since. I think my favorite scene thus far has been when the cat steals the baby's umbilical cord and starts batting it around the floor. Oh my god, I was in tears!!
I hate that Miranda's character was pregnant last year and the actress is pregnant this year - and they are writing it into the script like a weight gain. That just bugs me.
And thank GOD Samantha got rid of Richard - who can even buy that she would be in a relationship, AND be all freaked out that he was going to cheat on her?
And I HATE that Charlotte is obsessing about being single. Last week with the "I will find love" Affirmation, and this week with the old maid. If they don't make her stop whining soon I'm going to lose my mind.
I have to vote for both Big and Aiden. I loved them both - for different reasons. But both are nice to look at - IMO :D
Here's hoping that next week's episode redeems the last two - or I'm going to be miserable waiting for the Sopranos and Six Feet Under!!!!

Oh...I forgot to say that I really liked the part in last night's show where Carrie is trying so hard to keep the "FRIENDSHIP" going. She made a comment that friendships don't just happen for 30 years; sometimes you have to really work on it. (Ok..I paraphrased that horribly..) I really liked seeing that she valued her friendships so much and realized that they all needed to work on it. I loved the ending on the bus with the picture-taking moment.

So the actress that plays Miranda is pregnant, too? DH and I thought they just were putting padding on her.
08-05-2002, 02:10 PM
Miranda was not really pregnant. I saw a picture of her in a "fat suit" in People magazine (or somewhere). Sarah Jessica Parker IS pregnant!
08-05-2002, 02:12 PM
Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda, announced a few weeks ago she is pregnant. So these episodes are padding :)

Another vote for Carrie and Big. And I hope this season picks up as well!

Interesting - I just assumed that Cynthia Nixon was further along in her pregnancy - hence the reason for her extra weight on the show. I don't know if the "fat suit" makes me feel better or worse about her weight!
I missed last night's episode, but I guess I'll catch it on rerun on Wed night. Pilgrim1719 is right: there are only 8 episodes for this season. Bummer!
I did read somewhere that Chris Noth (Big) is coming back just for maybe 2 episodes, so maybe they'll save those for the end of the season and have a cliffhanger over if they're getting back together.
I didn't want Samantha back with Richard either...I was cracking up when she was passing fliers out on the street and the policewoman said to her (after hearing her story) "Carry on!".

I've been a HUGE fan of this show from the beginning, and I love, and continue to love, every episode. I really like the emphasis this season on the four women and their friendship. It's sweet, and nice to see.
But I would be happy to see either Big or Aidan back. They are so nice to look at! :D

Dawnie_Wu-- I'm right there with you on the cat with the cord scene, best of the season so far, without at doubt!
One comment on Charlotte's clothes this season- are they meant to be a joke? I mean, when she had that ruffle neck blouse on in the casino, I thought they were going a bit too far. I just don't think she'd really wear that...or maybe she would but I wouldn't...
