I am looking for a supper club in the Charleston area or if there is not one to maybe get one started. Anyone interested?

I live on Kiawah but am willing to travel if Charleston area has a supper club forming. I think this would be a great way to meet folks.
I'd be interested, too. Live in Charleston.

I would be interested in a supper club. I belonged to one in Orlando and it was a lot of fun! I live in Summerville.

I'm also interested...I participated in a CL group in Dallas and am now just settling into our new place on Daniel Island.

I've been away and just got emails that two more folks have expressed interest in a Charleston supper club! YAY!!! Seems like forever since I first posted a message. And two of you have done this somewhere before...that's a PLUS!!! Other than what I read in the mag, I have no clue how to get this rolling. I guess Charleston's first attempt didn't get anywhere so I'm hoping this will be more successful. Are four interested parties enough to get this started?

I lived in Charleston, then moved to DC where I joined a CL supper club through the bulletin board. We always had a good time. Met about once a month...we usually had a theme and although we tried to bring "light" recipes, we were never bound by the magazine. It made things more relaxed and casual.
I have returned to Charleston and would be interested in starting a group or joining one.
Keep me posted!
Amy
Let's all get together at a restaurant and decide what next? We could meet at the Hominy Grill, 39 Rue De Jean, or some other place in Charleston in the next couple of weeks. What do you all think about this? Pat

Sounds great....I like Rue de Jean, have Hominy as somewhere to try, and am up for anything, so just suggest a time/place and see what the interest is. Any night but Wednesdays work for me...have a class that night.

Great! Would love to meet @ either place. Wednesdays are not good for me, but other nights usually work. I am away this weekend and next week I am busy with church - Holy Week and Easter.
What about Thursday, April 24th?

I would love to join everyone. Just got engaged this weekend though and have two months to plan a wedding that will be in Orlando. I have company for the next three weekends to help me shop for a dress, etc. So I'm a little hectic until the first week of May. I don't want to hold anyone up though. If you still wouldn't mind including me. I could give someone my e-mail address and they could let me in on what I need to do....

Congrats April!
Thanks AmyMcP for suggesting a date. I think I could make it but it's actually a week I have plans (Cher on Wednesday & trip to Cola on Friday).
My other concern once I read the thread on "who belongs to a supper club" is something obvious that I did not think of...I was just worried about trying to get somewhere in between driving from McClellanville & N.Chuck everyday...I did not even think about the fact that I doubt anyone wants to drive all the way to McClellanville just to eat!! Let me know what you think.
Have a good day! Kim

Would this be just the girls or couples? If its couples we could do it on a Friday or Saturday night and then the drive wouldn't seem so daunting. It would just be kinda like a date night!
The club I was in before met once a month on the second Saturday of every month. They picked a theme and then each couple was responsible for bringing one course, which was assigned the month before, and one bottle of wine to go with that course.
It was so much fun planning what your course would be and then researching the perfect bottle of wine to complement that course. Is this anything close to what y'all had in mind?

I don't know if this is couples or not...I'm not sure if my husband is interested....I'm not saying he definitely isn't, but he wasn't involved at my last group. That one actually used recipes from the current magazine issue and we made the food at the group. It was fun!
We have a date- April 24th. Alternatively, we could meet this once on a Saturday for lunch if it is better for Kim and Amy (if she can get there).
We have a place- Hominy Grill, Charleston-it's easier to carry on a conversation there. 39 Rue is very loud at night.
Why don't those of us that can meet- without partners this time- and sort out how we want to run the club and get something started?
I'll be glad to make the reservation once we know how many and when.

I can't make it on the 24th...have house guests thru the following weekend. But keep me posted on what develops. I've been up North for the past month, but it looks like our group is making progress. I'll be eager to hear about what y'all decide.

Hi there. My name is Helen, I live on James Island and am very interested in joining a cooking club. Tell me if I am too late to respond. I am the pastry chef for Mistral, on market street. Everything I cook at the house is definetely more CL than at work!!
Sincerely.
Welcome Helen- are you also responsible for the delicious croissants??
If I have this right, we have 4 interested- Helen, Amy, Susannah (who wrote me directly) and me. Susannah, if you are reading this, just chime in. Susannah can't make it that evening, would it be possible to meet for lunch that day? Just asking.
Pat
Oops! I have a meeting on Thursday at lunchtime, so I can only make it for Thursday dinner. Wow! I am sure getting together for supper is easier than this, right???

I can't make it for lunch any day because I am at work but I might be able to do a dinner. I am also training to be a certified trainer at my gym so it is going to be difficult for the next couple of weeks. If I can't make it for the first supper club dinner, I would definitely make it for the second, it is just that I am doing double almost everyday for 2 weeks.
I know. bad timing...
No, the croissants are bought...just makeing the breads and kaiser rolls!

I called Hominy Grill and they open at 5:30 and we are advised to make a reservation for this Thursday. Is 6PM okay? Let me know who will be coming and I will make the reservations once I know the numbers.

Sorry I have not chimed in sooner. I have been busy with finals at Cof C and having projects due. I can make it this thursday at six so I will see you all at Hominy Grill.

Susannah, Elizabeth, and I met tonight and scheduled the first supper for the Charleston group on May 10th. More details tomorrow!
Pat
Dear All,
We are ready to get the first dining event going and hope you can make it on May 10th. It will be a brunch and based on the April issue's Simple spring brunch.
The outcome of the Thursday meeting follows and Susannah and Elizabeth, add any points I miss!
We suggest the following:
1. The Charleston Supper Club meet once a month at one of the member's homes.
2. It would be near the end of the month.
3. The host/hostess decide on the menu based on the latest issue of Cooking Light and look for volunteers from the group/inform member what to bring or do.
4. Initially, we will keep to the members being the ones to cook, but spouses are invited if they wish to attend.
5. It would be good to get the membership up to about 15. (Ideas on how?)
6. We need to collect the following information from everyone: e-mail and phone contact and each persons food issues such as allergies or if vegetarian, etc..
As I mentioned, the first Supper Club will be a brunch on May 10th at my place and begins at 11:30 or 12 (let me know which is better- it will be a group decision). The "Simple spring Brunch" begins on page 112 of April's issue.
Please let me know if you can make it.
Also, if you send me the contact numbers and important food related issues, I will put that list together and forward to the others.
My e-mail is theco2ridor@yahoo.com or I will pick it up from here.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Pat
Dear all,
I have heard from Lynn, Susannah and Elizabeth. Lynn can't make it. Susannah, Elizabeth and I can. Are there any others of you that will be available for the brunch on May 10th? If not we might want to change the dates. In additiong, if you need more time to plan these dates, please let us know and we can change that. We were trying to have at least one get together before Piccolo and Spoleto and summer vacations. Also, if you check the earlier message above, and can send me the information, then I can share that with the other members. Looking forward to hearing from you. Pat
Dear All,
Is there a majority of people interested in a brunch on May 10th as our first Charleston "Supper" Club event?
I have heard from three of you, two who will be able to make it. If this is a bad time, or if we should postpone to a better date, please let me know. We selected this date to get things started before Spoleto and summer vacations, but maybe the timing is wrong. Please chime in.
Thanks, Pat
It looks like the next weekend is tough for most of the members. So, let's reschedule.
What date would be better? Shall we try for a weekend? Should we look at May or June?
Pat
Anyone interested in getting together in July? We could meet at a restaurant again and see how many people we can get together.
Pat
