I have been eyeing this book for awhile-it gets rave reviews on Amazon and Epicurious. Just wondering if anyone owns it and if they use it?
I ask if it gets used because it sounds like alot of the recipes call for hard to find ethnic ingredients. I would appreciate any opinions on this book! Thanks!:)

I wasn't overly impressed with this book, although I'd thought I would be. In the cuisines that I'm familiar with (mostly southern European), I thought the proportions and flavor blends were a little "off," not entirely authentic and a bit heavy-handed. And some of the European cuisines were underrepresented. But that's just one woman's opinion.

Why not check it out at your local library before you buy it? That's what I usually do.

Cheers,
Phoebe

I've checked it out twice from the library but have never prepared any of the recipes. I agree with kima, check it out a take a few recipes for a spin before making your decision.

I have it. I've not made one recipe from it. Many of them do sound good. I did read it from cover to cover, and didn't really think it lived up to its "world vegetarian" title. I felt that the majority of the recipes were Indian-inspired (not a bad thing, just not what the title implies), and the rest seemed, as Phoebe said, a little inauthentic.

I'd definitely get it out of the library before purchasing to see if it's your cup of tea. :)

I received this one as a gift.

I too have read it cover-to-cover, but haven't really been inspired to make anything out of it. I agree with gertdog that many of the recipes are indian inspired, and if I had wanted her indian recipes (which I do!) I would have prefered one of her straight indian cookbooks (which I hear are excellent).

So, for now, it sits upon my bakers rack looking really impressive! ;) :o

I have it on hold at the library. I have looked at it before, many years ago, and wasn't all that impressed then. I read a number of glowing reviews at Amazon and thought perhaps my first impressions had been wrong.
I always trust the opinions I receive here-you guys are my experts!
