We don't have Penzey's in Canada. I keep seeing it mentioned again and again. Is it a food chain? Or a brand? We also don't have Trader Joe's. Someone please come to my aid.

Penzey's is a purveyor of spices. They've got a web site www.penzeys.com if you want to check out their stuff. Trader Joe's is a chain of stores which sells all manner of foods and wines. They get a lot of special buys from manufacturers and sell things at reduced prices under their own label, plus they stock quite a few hard-to-find items. If you're bored or curious, run a search here on the board for past threads with more information on either, (the search is upper right hand corner of your screen if you've never noticed-- and click "search titles only" or you'll get a million threads listed.)

Welcome to my world foodfiend!:D Stick around here long enough and Penzey's becomes that long long cousin...who have heard of them but never met!!!:(
I am very fortunate though-lovely Kathryn Y gave me a bottle of Penzey's Madagasgar Vanilla Extract when we met in Seattle-I was so thrilled! When I use it I feel cool!:)
Penzey's -come north! (please!)

If it's any consolation foodfiend, I'd never heard of Penzey's when, last Christmas, DBF received a big ol' gift box (around 25 jars) of Penzey's spices. When I joined the BB four months later I looked on that gift with new eyes, I tell you!! (They have a few retail stores, but I believe it's mostly mail-order and Web-based.)
