I can't believe it! The old Cooky Book (copyright 1963) that I grew up with is now out in a facsimile edition! My older sister snagged our family copy from my Mom (it must be falling apart by now), so I'd always be emailing her for this or that recipe. A gift from my sister just arrived -- the new facsimile edition! I'm living overseas now, so I had no clue this was going to be published. What a great surprise! Warning -- most of these recipes are defintely not light! But if you have fond memories of this book from your childhood like me -- it's a must have!

Luckily for me I am an only child, so when I grew up there was no one to steal my Cooky Book away! :) Almost all the cookies my mother and I made while I was growing up came from this book, and I still make a lot of them today, especially around the holidays. My copy is getting quite ragged, though, maybe I should invest in a new copy to cook out of and not risk completely destroying my mother's copy. What are your favorite recipes from the Cooky Book?

Oh, the nostalgia! :D I was not close to being born in 1963 but my mother also had a copy of this. Actually, she still does, but it was my sister and I who grew up making recipes from it more than she did.
Some of our favourites were:
Candy Cane Cookies
Shamrock Cookies
Lebkuchen
Meltaways (esp. Peppermint)
Cooky-Candies
I know there are lots of others, as well as many more that we tried but didn't quite make it on the "favourites" list. I'll have to have a look at the book soon and remember some more! Thanks for the happy memory. :) We still make some of these recipes, especially at Christmas time.

How timely! This week while traveling for work, I stayed with a colleague who baked cookies the night I was there. She pulled out the Cooky Book for a recipe, and after she was done I browsed and thought "I want this!" She offered to let me copy any recipes I wanted, but now I can get my very own copy. Thanks for the info! :)

Our favorites were:
Candy Cane Cookies
Toffee Squares
Chocolate Crinkles
Rosettes
and one Christmas, we actually made the Cooky House!

I was lucky enough to have "stolen" my mother's 1959 Betty Crocker Cookbook when I moved out. The binder has since fallen apart, and it is now in a new binder. Autumn Spice Cake, Hot Fudge Pudding, Snickerdoodles, Molasses Crinkles, Merry Christmas Cookies. . . . yumyum!

I'm so excited. My mom just sent me this an early Christmas present. She wrote on the package, don't open until December, but she told me on the phone I could open it early. I can't wait to start reading it! (too bad work gets in the way)

Oh, I LOVED this book! This is the cookbook that is almost completely responsible for me loving to cook! My favorites were the ones divided up by decades in the back of the book.
I might have to filch this from my mother's bookshelf when I go to her house for Thanksgiving! But in case I am caught in the act, it's good to know that it is back in print and I can get my own copy!
