View Full Version : What are your favorite Burt's Bees products?

For those who don't know, Burt's Bees makes all-natural, earth-friendly toiletries (lotions, creams, soaps, shampoos, etc.). I've bought a lot of their stuff before as gifts for other people, but never for myself. When I was shopping last night at Central Market, I noticed that they have a huge selection of Burt's Bees stuff, so I browsed for awhile. A bunch of things caught my eye, and I will probably end up picking up a little starter set to try some different products, but I'm curious as to which your favorites are. I'd especially love feedback on the lemon butter cuticle cream, the almond milk beeswax hand cream, and the coconut foot cream. Those are the ones that caught my eye. :)

I did end up buying DH a little shave set that he's always wanted, with a shaving mug, brush, and shaving soap. He loved it. So now it's my turn. :D

You can check out their products at www.burtsbees.com if you're interested.

Hi Eva!
I use this every night and I really like it. It smells heavenly too. It's not oily, and my skin absorbs it pretty quickly.

My FIL borrowed my tin last time he was up and he ended up claiming it for his own and swears by it now too. :)

Beeswax Lip Balm - Minty, and man, it works like no other lip balm. It tastes like Doublemint Gum. :)

Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream: Swear by it in the winter. Great scent, and it works. It's easy to slip into your purse and use it when you've got a few spare moments.

Orange Essence Facial Cleanser: I love the smell, but it didn't work well on my face. (I have an oily complexion.) I sent it to my mother, who loves this stuff. Her complexion is fairly dry, and it's gentle enough with the added benefit of moisturizing.

Pore Refining Mask: I like anything with green clay in it, and this is no exception. It's got a menthol scent going for it that makes your face cool while it hardens.

Citrus Facial Scrub: Ehhhhh, it was okay. It smells like pumpkin pie because it has cloves in it. I was expecting more citrus. There's better exfoliators out there.

Coconut Foot Cream: It's definitely coconutty. :D It's a little greasy, but it works. You must wear socks to bed if you put this stuff on, or else your sheets get ruined. (Unfortunately, I don't sleep well with socks on! )

Um. Yeah. Did I mention I like Burt's Bees stuff? :) I enjoy giving their sample/travel packs as gifts; I've even bought a kit, borke it open, and used it as stocking stuffers - I kept some of the stuff! ;)

I also love the cuticle cream. It smells wonderful, absorbs well, and most important, does keep my cuticles nice and soft!

I liked the smell of the foot cream but like Mary Kate said, it is a bit greasy. I hate sleeping in socks, and so this product is not a repeater for me.

Another vote for the cuticle cream. I work in the yard a lot in the summer and if I don't use it my hands are a mess! It's great all year long.

Question: Is this mask the same as the GREEN GODDESS mask that Burt's Bees used to have? I haven't been able to find the GG Mask, but have seen the Pore Refining Mask everywhere of late...

Loved that Green Goddess...

Also like the cuticle cream. It's sad to say, I neglect my nails. But when I remember to use it, it really does the job. Stinks like bug spray, though...

Lone dissenter on the cuticle cream. I thought it was too greasy, and I felt like I was rubbing Pledge into my cuticles. I do like their hand cream, though, and I think it does the job on keeping my cuticles soft and hangnails at bay.

LOVE the lip balm!

I also love the smell of their baby products. I keep meaning to get some of the dusting powder for me, since I love to use powder after I moisturize to seal it in.

Ok, I'll fess up. I use the deodorant. :o

I'm pretty worried about the links of antiperspirant to cancer etc and I don't like the smell of other deodorant products I've seen. I think it works really well for regular activity, but don't come near me after I've been to the gym.

As for cuticle cream, Sally Hanson makes an apricot one that you can get at Walgreen's. I think its great.

I LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUVVVVVV their eye-cream!!!
Also the cuticle cream.
I don't mind sleeping with socks on and I LOVE the smell of the foot-cream.
I like the smell of their baby care line too.
I love their flavored lip glosses/balms too.

I love the lip balm. The baby care line is great, too. I have to use the baby bee buttermilk lotion because the "adult" stuff gives me a rash.

I ordered:

Lemon Butter Cuticle Crème
Coconut Foot Crème
Baby Bee Getting Started Kit
Head to Toe Starter Kit

The Head to Toe Starter Kit probably would have done the trick, but everyone raved about the cuticle cream and foot cream, I just figured to go all out. And I love the smell of clean babies, so that explains the Baby Bee Getting Started Kit.........well, maybe not....... :D ;)

Deoderant -- chemical deoderants do some strange things to my underarms

Hand Salve

Rosemary Mint Shampoo Bar (even DH uses this one)

I love the Coconut Foot Lotion and the Avocado Hair Treatment but it makes my hair too soft. The shampoo bar doesn't dry out my hair and my hair doesn't get dry enough to use any conditioner.

Lavdender Mint Toothpaste

Hey, for you Burt's Bees lovers...last week I was doing some shopping on-line and drugstore.com was offering some free Burt's Bees products (I think a starter kit) for making a purchase. Don't know if they are still offering that, but you may want to check it out. It also seemed that they were offering a LOT of Burt's Bees products. If you spend up to $75, shipping is free.

I totally missed this question the first time around - sorry! And I think you've caught my error: I was thinking of the Green Goddess mask, and I've just run out of my last batch so I hadn't been looking for the GG. Is it gone for good?

I was excited to see your question (although sorry I didn't get my two cents in before your order) because I have converted many folks to Burt's!! (BTW, my eyes lit up when I saw your Central Market reference...I am SO jealous and hope they francise soon to land-locked Lexington so I can get Out of a Flower ice cream!)

Anyway, everyone I've given or recommended BB lip balm to loves it, swears by it, and won't buy another brand.

I use the Baby Bee dusting powder--talc-free and nice, soft scent.

I love, love, love the hand salve, and have shared it with my fiancee. The almond milk stuff is nice too, but thicker and not as subtly scented.

The bay rum aftershave is yummy on boys too! (I can't convince my fiancee to love it as much as I do).

The Baby Bee Apricot oil is FABULOUS after you shave your legs. It soaks in and isn't super-oily like baby oil. Sorry I can't give any input on how the Baby Bee stuff is on real babies, but a new mother I gave a kit too was pleased!

They also give lots of $$ to land conservation, if you're into buying earth-friendly products.

I will give a thumbs down to the lipstick line--funky colors that don't relate to my skin tones at all, although they make my lips feel good (as long as I'm not near a mirror!)

I just got another starter kit for my b-day with some products I haven't tried...I could go on and on...

This thread is fabulous. I have a huge Burt's Bees shop within another shop very nearby, but never really looked through it that closely. But, after reading all these wonderful reviews, lip balm, here I come! I use BeachBum's favorite cuticle cream, Sally Hanson's Apricot Creme, and think it's great.

What great timing! We're traveling this week, and I ran into a Burt's Bees display in a gift shop. I tried the cuticle cream and loved it but didn't buy it. After reading all of your great recommendations, I think I'll buy some on the way home . . . along with another sample or two. Thanks!

Thanks, everyone! It sounds like all their products are winners with someone. I bought the almond milk hand cream and the head to toe starter kit. I love the hand cream, although it's a little too thick and I end up using more than I probably need to, in order to spread it. I really loved the coconut foot cream, and will probably go back and buy a big tube of it. It's a little greasy, but I love the way it smells and after two nights in a row of using it and sleeping in socks, my feet are soooo soft! I'm still undecided on the cuticle cream. I like the way it feels, but the smell is very Pledge-y. Oh, and DH grabbed the lip balm out of my starter kit, so I doubt I'll ever see that again.

I know, it's just shameless to bump your own thread up, isn't it? :o

I'm curious what newbies are liking or disliking about their Burt's Bees products - Sandy??? Anyone else with new reviews???

After trying quite a few of the products that came in my starter kit as well as a couple of extras I bought, this is what I've come to:

Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme: Very thick and does a good job of moisturizing, but it's TOO thick, and while the almond scent is nice in the beginning, it shortly thereafter starts to smell really waxy - I don't think I will buy this again

Coconut Foot Creme: Love this! I hate sleeping in socks, but it's worth it because this makes my feet so soft. And the smell..... :)

Lemon Butter Cuticle Creme: Still undecided. I've used it a few times and I like the results, but I can't get past the Pledge-y smell.

Beeswax Lip Balm: My favorite product!! DH snagged this out of my starter kit so I've only used it a few times , but I'm picking up my own the next time I go to Central Market. I've been a die-hard DCT fan for years but not anymore.

Vitamin E Body and Bath Oil: Love this too! I don't take baths often, but sometimes on a late weekend night, I like to relax in a hot bath. A tablespoon of this stuff in my bath water leaves my skin feeling sooooo soft, but not greasy.

Carrot Nutritive Body Lotion: Used this once, but I'm not sure if I can get past the awful orange color.

Peppermint Shower Soap: Smells great! I took my starter kit bar to the gym and use it after working out. It's gentle and the scent is subtle but refreshing.

Avocado Butter Hair Treatment: Also undecided on this one. Have only used it once, but I didn't really notice a difference in my hair. I'll try it again with what I have left.

Oh, and DH loves his Bay Rum shaving stuff. And I love the way it smells. Yummy..... :D

After all the great reviews, I'm planning to pick up a Baby Bee Starter Kit next.

LOL! I too have been known to bump my own thread a time or two. ;)

Is the lip balm the one in the tin/pot? Or is it a stick? I prefer a stick-- I hate the feeling of lip balm under my fingernails. *shudder*

aggie94
12-31-2002, 10:46 AM
LOL, Lisa - I know EXACTLY what you mean about lip balm under your fingernail. That's been my problem with DCT for years.

The Burt's Bees lip balm comes in either - tin or tube, for us picky folks. :) DH has a BAD habit of always losing his lip balm tubes - he puts them in his pocket, in his truck, in his golf bag, in his backpack, etc., but they never make it home. Or they make it home, get left on the coffee table, and the dogs swipe them and eat them. :o Anyway, he's held onto this one longer than any other because he likes it so much. :p

I must be one of the "weird" ones out there. I bought the starter kit and I didn't like anything:eek:

The lemon cuticle stuff smells horrid to me and the almond foot creme
is yucky when it goes on. The hand salve or whatever it is called makes my hands hurt. The only thing I liked was the avocado hair treatment.

what's wrong with me???:p

aggie94

Just different strokes for different folks. :) Don't feel bad - it's all a matter of personal preference. I know people love Aveda products but so far I haven't found a single thing from there that I like, much less like enough to justify the price.

I got Burt's Bees in my stocking! I've been using the lip balm for awhile now and love it. I also got:

Coconut Foot Cream --Ooh! My feet feel wonderful! It's pretty gross going on, and I hate wearing socks to bed, but it's so worth it.

Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Cream -- I think this stuff is great. I have very dry hands that often crack and bleed in the winter. I put this on in the morning and my hands are soft all day.

Not in my stocking, but I really like the Baby Bee line, too.

Facial in a Kit-really neat-can't wait to try this one...

Wings of Love make-up artist kit-this is really cool...samples of all the make-up products in all the colors...the way they do the packaging is pretty unique

Mini lip stick variety pack-this item is what they call a "2nd" on their web-site...it was half-price, and I can't find a darn thing wrong with it!

I already have my next order ready to go...I LOVE this stuff!

I've used a bunch of their products.
1)lip balm--love it, and buy them for everyone. I prefer the tube to the tin, though, even though the tin does last a long time
2)cuticle cream--like it, and I like the lemon scent too
3)milk and honey body lotion--yummy! smells good, and is nice and softening
4)hand salve--just ok. There are so many good hand lotions, and this one strikes me as just okay. You can use the cuticle cream on your hands if you want a more "salve-y" type of hand cream, but I actually prefer Perlier Honey Recipe for the Hands or Blisslabs High Intensity Hand Cream.
5)Wings of Love Translucent Facial Powder--I really like this one! I think it's new. I had been looking for nice loose powder that would look natural and not "chalky" and I think this is it!
6)Burt's Bees "Remedies" kit--I bought this for a friend who was going on a trip. It included a soap to help calm poison ivy rash, bug repellant, a lip balm with SPF, peppermint breath drops, hand salve, and some other things I think. My friend said she really liked it, although I don't know which things she used or didn't use.
7)Pore Refining Mask--I haven't tried this, but my sister really likes it.

I used to only see this stuff at Whole Foods, but now I've been finding it everywhere--Long's Drugs in CA had a huge selection of the makeup line, and I found a bunch of the products at a local Barnes & Noble store too. It's great that it's becoming so popular--go Burt's Bees! :D

I like the coconut foot creme. Smells great!

I think the almond hand stuff smells great, but it's too waxy.

Lemon cuticle cream, I liked it, and used up the tin, but won't repurchase, I just rub my regular handcream into my cuticles. I don't need the 2 separate creams for cuticles and hands.

I loooooove Burt's Beeswax Lip Balm! I own about three tubes of it -- one in my purse, one in the van (just in case I don't have my purse:D ) and one on my night stand. I always get one in my stocking at Christmas too.

The Strawberry Lip Gloss is fun. I use it on top of my lip color.

The Almond Milk Hand Cream --- I wasn't that crazy about. It's really thick and the smell is overpowering.

Granolagirl - I received the marshmallow creme in a sampler kit and could not get past the smell! Smelled like candy!! However, my mom and best friend love it and said that that the it's perfect because it is not too oily.

My favorite products are the carrot nutritive day cream (face), the carrot soap, decolette cream and ESPECIALLY the ROYAL JELLY EYE CREAM!

I have been intermingling Burt's products with my Dr. Hauschka products because the Dr. H. stuff is SO expensive.

Ilove their carrot face soap, and the face cream, once its on. It smells like carrot cake for the first 15 minutes. I am trying to diet and it makes me hungry! I also use the Royal Jelly eye cream at night. And the night cream was great in the winter, but is too thick and greasy for the summer. When my skin was incredibly dry this winter, though, it was the only thing that worked.

My favorite thing is when my snotty California relatives say "oh, you have to try this new Burts Bees" and I get to say, "hello, it is made in North Carolina".

Burt's bees stuff is so fun...I tried the avocado butter pre shampoo hair treatment not too long ago and liked it a lot! My current favorites are also the citrus facial scrub and of course my nutmeg lip shimmer...

I LOVE the Coffee Lip Shimmer. No way I would have chosen that color on my own, but my friend said to get it, and it is great! It doesn't dry out my lips the way lipstick does, and it's just the right color for me.

On halloween I just picked up one of their sample kits. The beeswax lip balm is as good or better than any other lip balm I've used.

In my sample kit there was a tiny tub of Almond milk Beeswax hand creme. It's so thick and my hands are so dry that it doesn't really work very well on my hands. :o But it does work great on the area of dry skin right around the outside of my lips. :o

The Marshmallow Vanishing Creme is a face cream. I use it during the summer when I have a tan and dont use the tinted moisturizer. (the tinted moisturizer is a little heavy for summer.) I use the royal eye jelly at night...it is for under the eye and for me is a little too heavy to use during the day. I dont wear much makeup so heavy to me may not be heavy to someone else.

I dont know if even plastic surgery could make me look more refreshed :D but I use them both for moisture.

I agree...Burt's Bees is fun!

Colleen, I have really sensitive skin and use the Carrot Day & NIght moisturizers with no problem. They do tend to give you an orange pallor, especially the night cream but hey, DH is usually asleep before me ;)

Edited to add, I buy most of my BB products on eBay,, you can get some great deals in bulk as it's quite expensive.

Some of the products are kind of greasy or slimy. I've bought a few over the years to try. They smell nice and are packaged well. However, the only one I routinely use is their lip balm. A lot of people really love their products, so you may fare better than I.

That's too bad...I guess some people are minty people and others aren't. Just like how some people like spicy food and others can't stand it! :) Not sure which I am - I still have to try the honey lip balm. I just bought the honey lip balm for a friend & myself-- she likes it even better than the minty one, I like it fine. The almond milk lotion is wonderful stuff; the almond beeswax hand cream saves my hands whenever i am doing real baking, cleaning, gardening. I put it on before, and it protects me so well-- it does take a moment or two to sink in though.

The Repair Serum w/Attar of rose is fabulous stuff to dot around those eye & neck lines-- disappears very fast and perks up the face, plus smells divine. I especially like to use it when I wake up looking as old as I am. (A more frequent occurence than I care to admit). Clearly, i use alot of it.

Not every Burt's Bee is for everyone-- a year ago, I couldn't have used the Marshmallow face cream, now my skin sucks it up and begs for more. It's also nice to put it on right before I see my man-- there are advantages to having a subtle "dessert" smell!

I have some Banana Lotion or hand creme (not sure which). Could not use the stuff AT all because it was so thick and greasy until I was down in Arizona a month or so ago. I was applying it three times a day!
The lip balm doesn't do it for me ~ I find it too heavy (and I am a serious Blistex/Rosebud Salve addict)

Thanks for the ideas heavy hedonist - glad to hear that you and your friend liked the honey lip balm! The repair serum sounds fantastic...I may have to try that one soon :) Is the burt bee's almond beeswax hand creme one of those lotions that is good to put on your hands over night? I find that I wash my hands so many times during the day that my best chance of keeping them from drying out is to put something really moisturizing on them overnight...

Bumping this thread to see if anyone got good Burt's Bees stuff as gifts? I still have a few friends who I haven't gotten gifts for (seeing them soon, eek) and am trying to decide what to get...inspire me?? :)
