Help! Messed up taskbar on computer

When I minimize a running program the icon does not appear down at the bottom in my taskbar. What have I done and what do I need to do to fix this problem?

Is there anything at the bottom of your screen? If not, run your cursor to the bottom of the screen until you get the double arrow, click and hold, and move up - sounds like your task line just got shrunk by accident.

If that's not it, let me know.

Okay, that's REALLY bizarre, because that just happened to me today also, for the first time ever, and we've spent the day trying to figure out what's wrong. Then finally, all of a sudden, the minimized programs started reappearing in the taskbar. I have no idea what the problem was, or if it's even fixed at all. :confused:

I have the icons for the Start button, the desktop icon, the mail icon, the internet icon, the clock, the sound icon, the virus icon, etc. just no minimized programs. Suggestons, please.

Pat, did you try turning off you computer and restarting? -Val

Yes, Val, I have tried that two or three times with no effect unfortunately. Other suggestions?

I know exactly what your taskbar looks like. If you keep your windows open to where you can see their ghosts behind others, you can switch between them, but once you minimize them, they're gone, right? If you CTRL-ALT-DEL to pull up your Task Manager, you can see that they're still running, but there's no way to pull back the window. Try ALT-TAB to toggle between the programs. DH did that, plus he tried to do a system restore a couple of times. I'm not sure if any of those made a difference, but like I said earlier, all of a sudden, they just reappeared.
