Which cookbook or cookbooks is or are the funniest you ve ever seen? They could be deliberately funny, such as some I ve seen that recommend unorthodox cooking methods (believe it or not, one recommended things such as cooking food in a car engine). They could also be ones that make you laugh simply because the recipes are so bad (I think somebody mentioned a book like this on this board a few months ago), or so complicated that you d need a staff of 12 to prepare them. Or maybe the pictures are funny... it could be anything!

These could make good presents for cooking-minded friends and family with a lively sense of humor http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

White Trash Cooking - looks both hilarious and horrifying, not to mention pretty insulting.

I have a book called Something Smells Funny by the guy from that no-longer-in-existence Food TV show called How to Boil Water. The recipes are not silly, they are actually pretty simple and look good. However, the author has funny stories all through the book that had my husband and I rolling on the floor as I read them outloud to him.

I have heard that the Looney Spoons books are pretty funny.

Natasha-
Talking about unorthodox cooking methods, our local news station did a segment on cooking food in the dishwash

er! They baked fish.

And, judging by the way they look this season, none of them eat either!

I've got the Looney Spoons one, and it's a hoot.

I've got a locally-published cookbook, too, that was put together by the church ladies at a local French-Canadian parish. Reading through it, it sounds just like the kind of fractured Franglish I grew up with http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

My mother-in-law got us a "cookbook" called Martha Stuart's Better Than You At Entertaining which includes such delicious recipes as smoked woodchuck, compost cake, jell-o aquarium mold (which includes 2 bags of goldfish crackers), & truman compote!

"DUDE FOOD: Recipes for the Modern Guy" by Karen Brooks et al. is hilarious! The names of the recipes are a hoot (things like: "You Go Risotto" and "Electric Love Lounge Chocolate Chip Cookies")

The "dishwasher salmon" is from The Surreal Gourmet. All three of his books are great--full of dry humor and unorthodox cooking methods. Did I mention that the food tastes spectacular?

Kim--The Elvis cookbook is so funny--but I don't think I could eat anything in it without having chest pains!

I vote for "Are you Hungry Tonight" a cookbook with Elvis' Favorite recipes. I would never try these recipes in a million years -fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches-talk about white trash cooking!

I bought this as a gag Christmas gift for my noncooking room mate a few years back and we got the biggest kick out of it. I included a coupon for my making any recipe in the book (except for the wedding cake)and she never took me up on it.

Eat, Drink, and be Kinky by Kinky Friedman. He tells stories all the way through it. Very funny & some good recipes too!

My neice's class compiled a cookbook as a project. It was so cute! My neice's contribution was cinnamon toast. She had it written perfectly until she got to the baking time- heat the oven to 450 degrees and bake the toast for 20 minutes. Some of the recipes were so funny.

These books sound hilarious. I'll have to check some of them out, maybe get one for my sister who is just beginning to use her oven.

I have Dom DeLuise's cookbook "Eat this, it'll make you feel better" or something like that. He has loads of funny stories from his life along with his Italian recipes. One story was about how his mom was pregnant and supposed to rest so his father was going to make dinner. Naturally, chaos ensued, including a headless chicken running around the kitchen. The recipes are normal, but the stories are hilarious!
