Is my cd player on its last legs?

Help! Just recently, my cd player has been skipping something awful. I know it's not the discs because they play fine in other players. I felt so bad yesterday when DD asked to listen to her Bear in the Big Blue House cd and it just skipped through the first few songs. It seems to get better by the middle of the disc. Is there something I need to clean or do I just ask Santa for a new player? It's about 10 years old.

I don't know Susan...but this morning my 2 year old screwed up our CD player. He bumped it and knocked one of the CD's off of the changer so it was stuck back in the player. I wasn't sure if that was what happened, but I suspected it, so I opened it up from the back and found the CD in there. Now it seems to be ok. Whew! DH would not have been a happy camper...dodged that bullet!;)

I confess that I "bumped" my cd player in anger! My poor little girl (18 months) wants to listen to her cd and dance. Made me sad :(. She is very good with the beat so she can tell that it wasn't right at all. DH wants to bring the old one disc cd player back up from the cellar. I am spoiled. I want 5 cds with the "shuffle" feature. Guess it doesn't matter to DD, though.
