I made these last night for a gathering and got rave reviews! I used semi-sweet chips as I had them on hand, and I rolled some in powdered sugar and some in cocoa and even put them in the little paper cups. My friends scarfed them up in no time flat. They were super easy, and the recipe made a ton--I've still got a big bowl in the fridge waiting to be rolled into balls. Thanks for posting it Missi!
For anyone who missed it:
Missi's Easy Chocolate Truffles
2 bags of chocolate chips ( I like milk chocolate the best, but semi sweet works too)
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
1-2 tsp of vanilla extract (I have substituted various liqueurs with good results)
Melt chocolate chips over double boiler with condensed milk. Stir in extract. Let cool until cool enough to handle. Roll in small balls. Roll in any of the following: powdered sugar, granulated color sugar, coconut, sprinkles, ground nuts.

Thanks for the recipe, we're having our gift exchange/party on Sunday evening so I've been looking for quick and easy recipes...chocolate to boot! About how many does it yield?

You know sneezles, that's a good question. I haven't had time to roll all of mine into balls yet, so I'm not quite sure. I know that last night I took 18 to the party, and I maybe used 1/4 to 1/3 of what was in the bowl. Of course, it also depends on how big you make the balls. I think the ones I made were on the small side.
Maybe Missi could give us a better idea--she said she made these to serve alongside her wedding cake.

I'm so glad you liked this recipe! It is SO easy and the results look very impressive.
I didn't put in a yield amount because it really varies on how big you make the balls. I have gotten 5 dozen before, making them very small, but I would think about 3 dozen is more accurate.
Someone else PM'ed me and asked how big a bag of chocolate chips---I always use 2 12oz bags to 1 can of milk.
Happy truffle making!

This is DS's (age 11) fudge recipe--just pour into a buttered 8 inch pan and chill. Then cut into small squares. delish.... (it takes 2 cups of chips.)

Okay, I got about 5 dozen (rolled the rest last night) but I will admit that some of mine were definitely on the small side. Most were pretty decent sized, though. I think you could easily get 4 dozen good-sized truffles. Maybe I just like my truffles smaller, though!

Ha, then I must like really small truffles :o Side note - what's the normal size for a can of sweetened condensed milk? Mine felt tiny - 14 oz - and I only had 1 and a half bags of chocolate chips. Anyway, I ended up with just over 6 dozen truffles :o I love how easy this recipe is! I rolled them in cocoa, coconut and powdered sugar (separately) while watching When Harry Met Sally :D

? for anyone that has made these. How far in advance can I make them? I saw some other recipes that said you can make them 1-2 weeks in advance and store them in an airtight container in the fridge.

Hi Peggy! I think you could make these at least a week or two in advance, but I would put them in the fridge. I have had good luck in freezing fudge, so maybe these could be frozen? I can't vouch for it since I never have frozen them, but it's worth giving it a try! Let me know if you try and freeze.

Thanks Missi, I probably won't try and freeze any that I'll be serving for this party, but maybe I'll toss a few in to try later. If I do I'll let you know how they turn out. But atleast I know I can do them a few days in advance.

Missi I love this recipe. I split the chocolate in 1/2 and did some with frangelico and some with vanilla. I did put about 6 in the freezer and I plan on pulling them out in about 2 weeks, I'll report back then.

Yes, very well. I think they were in the freezer for about 4 weeks total. The one that was rolled in nuts was not quite as good because the nuts got soft but still very edible.
