Hi. I'm a very new user and the last time I went into FAQ, I had to start over because it threw me out and wouldn't let me back in!

Here's my Q: Is there any way to make the board fit my screen? I don't like have to arrow over left and right to read messages. and if there's somewhere else I should have posted this stupid Q, let me know, plz.

luv2cook,

No, you should probably post these kinds of messages here http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif . I'm afraid I dwont' be much help, but welcome to CL!!!

I don't know about having the board fit your screen - I almost never have to scroll right or left to read a message. Occasionally this happens, but often due to a large graphic of some sort. Does this happen with every message on the Cooking Light board? Does it happen on other websites? I just ask these questions to try to narrow down the type of problems you might be having. Good luck!!

Sounds like this has more to do with your browser or computer/monitor set-up. Is there a button in the upper right hand corner of the window that you can click to enlarge the screen? It's usually next to the button with the X for closing the window.

If that doesn't do it, I would go into your monitor settings and see if you can change the resolution or display properties to give you a larger view. I know that's not real specific, but that's about my limits. Hope it helps or gets the attention of someone who can add more.

My computer screen at the top shows a bar that says Full Screen-mine is an ibm compatible not Mac.Can you take your cursor and put it at the edge of the screen to enlarge? It changes the cursor to an arrow. Hope that this helps, I have had your problem once but not again!

Thanks, Ya'll, for your help and the welcome. I have the screen enlarged. Must be a fluke. It doesn't seem to be a problem this morning. When I was reading the No children vs. children string, it was a real pain.

My other Q is how come some of us are junior members and some members?

You know, Gail, I usually try not to ask a lot of questions on a new board. I usually figure them out on my own most of the time. I did actually go to FAQ before I even started and I don't remember seeing that AND I got locked out and had to start over -- go out and go to the site all over again.

luv2cook - Sometimes when there's a long URL in a message in a thread, it "stretches" the message area to the point where you have to scroll horizontally, regardless of how big your screen area is. Otherwise, the message area should automatically expand and contract horizontally to fit the width of your window.

Try checking the threads where you were having problems, and if there's a long URL extending beyond the right-hand side of the window, that's the culprit. If not.... well, here insert the Twilight Zone theme song. Or better yet, call a tech support person. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Another problem might be the size of your font. Check your preferences, and change to a smaller font, and see if that makes a difference.

Good Luck!

After you've posted 50 times, your status changes from junior to member.

Hint: If you got a chance to read FAQ and hints for new members, they might answer some of your questions.

Welcome!

Hi, Luv2cook,

Why don't you try this (remembering that I don't mind having fairly small print on my screen and knowing that you can adjust later).

Go to your Start button and select Settings, Control Panel. When that window opens, select Display, Settings. You should have a slider bar under Desktop Area. Mine is set for 1024-768 pixels. Then, you might want to see if your font size is set to small fonts. That's what my settings are and I can see the whole message across and only have to scroll down.

See if that does the trick for you.
