View Full Version : Hello... New veggie on board!
Hi everyone!
I have been browsing this board for about a month and decided to join in the fun :) . I used to be an avid Cooking Light reader about 10 years ago before I became a vegetarian. I recently discovered this web site and this board and was delighted to discover that CL publishes several vegetarian dishes as well as delicious, healthy recipes for my carnivore fiance ;) .
Your posts have inspired me to move away from my usual recipes and to dust off my (numerous) cookbooks. I look forward to sharing my passion for food with you!

Gaja, welcome! This board is a delightful place.
I'm also a veggie with a carnivorous husband (but he doesn't eat meat at home).
I look forward to "seeing" you around on the boards. :)

welcome! what's your favorite vegetarian magazine?? i'm not a full-on vegetarian, but am always looking for more interesting ways to cook veggies. most magazines relegate them to side dishes, as you know.

Hi, Gaja, and welcome!
I'm also almost completely veggie (a little fish and chicken here or there) and my husband doesn't eat meat at all.
Just a thought for you: I've enjoyed great success making a lot of carnivorous recipes using Fake Meat, and served same to meat eaters. Yves Veggie makes nice stuff (their ground round, for instance) and if you want to be ambitious, the seitan "chicken", "beef" and "pork" recipes from www.vegsource.com(Bryanna Clark Grogan's recipes) are really good. I even made a veggie sauerbraten! (I hear prepared seitan can be bought in stores, but not where I am.)

It's good to have you here!
Your situation sounds similar to mine - I don't eat red meat or pork, BUT have learned to cook both for my fiance. We're also actively seeking out new vegetable recipes.
One night this week I seved Fire-Roasted Tomato Bisque and Spinach Mushroom Strudel. He didn't once comment on the lack of meat, he just talked about how good it was.

I was a vegetarian for over 10 years, and now eat a bit of fish and chicken. I use Cooking Light recipes religiously, and think there is always something for everyone. Welcome!

Hi there and welcome
I'm vegetarian ( with occasional chicken lapses) and have found lots of great stuff on this board. Hope you find a happy home away from home here.
wow...Thanks for the welcome!
SusanMac, I have not found a vegetarian magazine I truly like. I subscribed to Vegetarian Times for a while and also bought Veggie Life, but eventually found that the recipes were redundant and somewhat uninspiring. I think cookbooks are a lot more satisfying in that regard.
Cheers,
Gaja
Welcome gaja!!! From another pretty well vegetarian in canada. may i ask where you live in this fair land of ours?
My DH and I have been vegetarians since reading Diet for a New America in 1987. We do eat fish-I adore fresh wild salmon.
I must aslo admit to feeling the desire to put a bit of meat in my diet-and I really do mean just a bit. My DH isn't too keen on the idea. I guess I just feel a need for a bit more variety. I know many vegetarians would find that hard to understand. I believe everyone needs to eat foods that make them comfortable!Doa search with the word vegetarian-we have all posted many wonderful recipes!:)

Well, hello!
I am working on becoming...er..."more" vegetarian, if not totally. I eat very little meat to begin with, but it seems after several months of doing with out meat, I end up craving "MEAT" in the form of a grilled steak!
Welcome to the board, let's all learn to adopt the vegetarian lifestyle in a healthy (protein+iron+calcium) way!
Look forward to your input and advice on becoming vegetarian!
