It is that time of year!

We are already planning our party. Several of the people I work with decided we should have a get together at my place...so this is what we decided.

An appitizer carry in where we eat, drink champagne and play games. None of us wanted to brave going out with the masses, so we decided to make our own fun.

Hoe bout you???

Kim,

Funny! We've been talking about New Year's Eve at our house. The last two years my husband and I have taken our two boys (7 and 10) to a First Night celebration in Providence, RI. There are always a wonderful variety of acts, i.e. music, dancers, acrobats, etc. I think it's great to ring in the new year as a family. We come home well before midnight and have champagne and some special treats. But, every year my husband's best friend and his wife have a party. My husband would like us to go this year. I have mixed feelings, plus our favorite babysitter just moved in with her boyfriend and I doubt she is interested in sitting! My success in getting a sitter, or not, will definately be the deciding factor!

I thought I was losing my mind for a moment...didn't I read a post from you on the same subject, Kim?
Lo and behold:

I would have thought that this topic would have been more popular--oh, well; I think it's interesting. As for me, my boyfriend and I are going to Aspen and, as I posted before, need restaurant suggestions!! We got a couple good ones, but I would love to hear of a "can't miss."

...no, no silly! I didn't mean to say you STARTED it, rather to say you'd previously contributed to one on the same subject, that's all.

this time of year I am having enough trouble remebering where I put my report cards from minute to minute! I thought it was strange that no one had started this topic yet...guess they had...

I have what I call theFriday afternoon "drain bamage". I am trying to clear my desk for the weekend and people are bugging me with trivia that can wait until Monday! As my boss says, Calgon, take me away! I have suggested that we drink our dinner! Have a good weekend!

I think it is a very cool topic Kim! I will be at home with husband & both sons hopefully, drinking champagne and making some wonderful treats I have learned from all my wise food-mate-friends here on the board. Maybe we could set a little chat time up for the event! Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe time http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Well for me this New Year's has to be better than last year. It couldn't get worse. Last year my husband and I along with all three kids had the flu-the aches, pains, chills and fever kind! I was nursing my daughter at the time, so forced myself to drink as much apple juice as I could even though I hate the stuff. And on top of it all I got a bronchitis too!!

And oh yeah!!! This will be the first New years for me in about five years that I will not be either pregnant or nursing...I can have champagne!!! Yippee!!!

Lauren,

Where is the First Night celebration located in Providence? My husband and I will be going to Providence for Christmas/New Years. For NYear's, we may be going to a Portuguese celebration in North Providence.

AC,

The Providence Journal had a pull-out section over the weekend for First Night. Maybe you can get all the info off of their site, www.projo.com (http://www.projo.com)

The festivities begin in the afternoon and go all night. Many of the activities are at the RI Convention Center, but several of the local churches, Performing Arts Center, and large companies have events as well. Everthing is centrally located in downtown Providence, so you can park your car and walk to different events. The button you buy is your admission to all of the events.

Are you from RI? Visiting family?

Lauren,

No, I am from Texas. My husband is Portuguese, originally from the Azores, and has lived in Providence most of his life. He even went to URI. So, we usually see his family in Providence at least once a year. I'm not looking forward to the cold, but the family will keep me warm!

AC,

I just had to jump in here, I've never heard anyone mention the Azores! Alot of people don't even know where they are. My uncle is originally from the Azores, and just went back to visit last year for the 1st time in, oh lets say 40 years!! My great grandparents were also from Portugal, Portuguese people are very warm and loving (at least in my opion!)

Enjoy Providence and Happy Holidays Ann
