How do I get the plastic smell out of plastic cooking utensils

I received some black plastic cooking utensils to use in my non-stick pans (at least I am assuming they are plastic) and they have a plastic odor to them that transfers to the food when ever I use them. Most of them are by Oxo, so I don't really think it is a quality issue. I have basically thrown out two pasta dishes that I made when I made a homemade alfredo sauce because I could taste the plasic. Anyone else have a problem like this?

Never been faced with this, but maybe you could boil them in water and baking soda? Or how about an Efferdent tablet?

Thanks, I think I will start with the baking soda. I didn't think of that! :)
