Since you guys are the greatest in the world at helping to plan things I come to you once again! :D

DH and I have invited all of our friends up from Philly for the weekend and we need help on food to serve. Keeping in mind these are mostly guys (probably only 4 or 5 girls will be coming up) and although they have refined tastes, when they get together they tend to digress back to high school. They are all high school friends so it tends to make sense, somehow!

Anyway, money is tight this winter so I need help with how to feed everyone. I am going to make Drunken Shrimp from the Dinosaur Barbecue Cookbook because I already have the ingredients on hand.
Other than that, any ideas?

We will be drinking so I'm thinking a lot of munchy food but nothing that is too labor intensive. Maybe things I could make Friday night/Sat morning and then just put out as needed?
TIA!:D

As always Lidrusso's spinach balls would be a great filling munchie, and I always like to do chips and fresh salsa, and a cheese cracker selection for afternoon/evening muchies.

As for lunch, how about chicken salad? or a big pot of chili or taco soup in the crock pot? that way everyone could feel free to help themselves when they were ready.

If you tell us when else you're looking to feed them I'm sure you'll get more responses. :)

Maybe you could go back and look at the Super Bowl threads for ideas. It sounds like the type of food you are looking for would be similar to Super Bowl fare - easy to eat, available whenever people want it and "guy" food.

You'll need something for Sunday morning, too, maybe a brunch casserole, fruit salad and/or you could make cinnamon rolls ahead of time and just bake them in the morning.

Have fun!

Good ideas! Besides munchies we were thinking about something where they could serve themselves. No chili, though. You do not want a house full of guys drinking and then eating chili if you know what I mean!;)

I've never made the taco soup, so I am a little scared about that. Is it really kick arse? Is it something that everyone would probably like?

A couple weeks ago I would've chimed right in to suggest chili, but after what I refer to as "the Superbowl incident" involving one of DH's college friends, a bowl of chili, and a bottle of Yuengling Lager, I'd stick to something with a little less mess-potential.;) Lunch meat can get kinda expenive, but sandwich fixings would be super easy -- you could just make up a plate of lunch meats and cheeses and keep it available in the fridge. Rolls/bread, condiments, and chips, and you're all set.

As for Sunday morning, how about the famous Farmer's Casserole? If you do a searh, you'll come up with the recipe. When we have weekend guests, I do Farmer's Casserole, cinnamon rolls or muffins, and fruit. Guys seem to like toast with the casserole, too.

Have fun!
