Hi guys I searched for awhile on the internet for some mixing bowls, but didn't have much luck. I'm looking for a set of 3-5 nesting mixing bowls. I prefer stoneware or ceramic that is oven and dishwasher safe. They can be a set of 1 color solid or several different color solid bowls. Anyone see anything like this? I prefer primary colors, but am about ready to settle for anything. Relief patterns and patterns are acceptable, but it doesn't mean I'll like 'em.

:p

Crate and Barrel has a cool set, but they aren't oven safe.

Any suggestions?

(Oh I had a cool set, but they seem to be MIA, do any of you have them? ;))

I just saw some at William Sonoma. Costco even had some nice ones a few weeks back, but it's hit or miss there.

Peggy,

Emile Henry makes a set of 3 nested ceramic mixing bowls that come in bright pretty colors (one color per set, though) that are oven-safe. Cooking.com has a decent selection.

I have a great set of 4 Pyrex nesting mixing bowls in bright, solid primary colors -- blue/red/yellow/green. (OK, I don't think green is a primary color. Bear with me. ;) ) I think they're oven-safe -- never tried to use them in the oven, but I think all Pyrex is oven-safe, isn't it?

I bought them years ago, though -- I think it may even have been when I got my first apartment -- so I don't know if they make this particular set anymore. I'll search around and see what I can find.

Have you tried ebay? There are some great, vintage bowls in primary colors. Also, Boleslawiec Pottery is fast becoming a favorite--it's hand painted-typically patterns/prints; mostly blues, greens, yellows. It's freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and oven safe. Beautiful! Good Luck, Kim

Thanks for the tips everyone.

Eva I saw some of the Emile Henry ones earlier, but the one I saw weren't oven safe, but I see some are so those are a good possibility.

funnybone I checked the W-S website and don't recall anthing being oven safe, maybe I should actually do a little shopping the old fashioned way.:o I'll check out BJ's next time I'm there.

Helen, that is the exact type of set I want, but I haven't seen it at all. (BTW, I consider green a primary color even though I KNOW it isn't!)

stefania no C&B near me and the ones I saw in the catalog weren't oven safe.

Kim I'll check e-bay out, and if I don't come up with anything I think I'll be ordering the set from www.cooking.com .

Sometimes Marshalls and TJ Maxx have great kitchen items as well. It's also hit or miss, but they get things in daily. I'm constantly picking up things there.

Peggy -
I found a couple of things that might interest you:

http://www.homeforallseasons.com/kitchen_accessories.htm
Add a splash of color to your kitchen with this set of 3 stoneware mixing bowls. Embossed criss-cross and scalloped design. Freezer, microwave, dishwasher and oven safe.

Crate and Barrel DOES have these blue striped bowls (not quite as cool as the multicolored -- but oven safe):
http://www.crateandbarrel.com/store/search_products.asp?query=mixing+bowls&index=&category=x&ref=1&image_id=657&Nao=0
Durable, white porcelain bowls in three sizes feature classic blue horizontal stripes. Dishwasher, microwave and oven safe.

Hi Peggy -- I've been looking around, but can't seem to find anyplace that's still selling Pyrex bowls like the ones I have.

I did find someone on eBay who is selling just one of the bowls from my set, but not the other three. (I think you'd want the whole set, no?) This is what it looks like, BTW:

I have that set too! I love them. I wish Pyrex would re-issue them because they are so cute. My mom got them in the late 50's with her S&H greenstamps. She had never used them and they were still in their original box up until last year when I started using them. My friends told me to sell them on e-bay but I just loved them too much.

Thanks guys. Helene that is the set I like, but you are correct I want the whole set.

The ones that Leisa linked to were the contender until I saw the set that Lori posted from home for all seasons. But I have to admit that the price on the blue striped is very tempting!

I'll make a decision and get them ordered soon.

Thanks for your help.:D

Stop the presses! Sneezles are those oven safe? That's the set if they are...i really like those and the fact that it has 5 bowls really makes me happy!:D

Sneezles,

That set is really cute, and looks very similar to the set from Crate and Barrel that isn't oven safe. Since the USA Hardware site doesn't say anything about them being oven safe, I would wager a guess that they're also not. :(

Peggy, you should call them and ask.

Peggy....I was going to suggest Ebay also. If you type in Pyrex in search then you will find mounds of sets for sale. :)

I sent an email to usahardware, if that doesn't pan out I'll try ebay, but I do like the Emile Henry ones and the ones from home for all seasons, so I definitely have a couple of options now.

They are in fact oven, convection, micro, and dishwasher safe. The sizes are 20oz, 1qt, 1 1/2qt, 2 3/4qt and 3 3/4qt.

I'm dredging this old thread up to let you all know that I finally just ordered the bowls listed by sneezles.

I had gone to that sight a few day after this initial posting and those bowls were no longer listed, I had the model # and couldn't locate them that way either. I was going to order the ones listed by Lorilei, but never got around to it. Today I went the sight again looking for something else and low and behold the bowls were back! I ordered them and should have them in 7-10 days, I'll let you know what I think.

Eva did you order them?

Claire, I'm not sure if all pyrex is oven safe, but I *think* it is. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Thanks for you help everyone!

I just read in this morning's Washington Post that Nigella is now going into the line of baking items. They showed a picture of the measuring cups which are wider than normal for easy pouring, and said that she has mixing bowls. Right now I am unsure where they will be sold.

Yep, never mind. Just got an email saying those bowls have been discontinued.:(

I really liked the idea of 5 in a set, but the 3 pc set is pretty nice (lorilei's site) so I think I'll just go order those.

Ok normally it would not take me 5 months to choose something like mixing bowls, but I kept going back to that site that sneezles listed hoping they'd re-stock the 5 pc. set I liked, but they never did.

So I finally (sometime last week)ordered the 3 pc. set that lorilei posted. They arrived yesterday and are very nice. The colors are richer than they look in the pic, which I like and the sizes are nice.

Thanks everyone for your help, if you ever see theat 5pc BIA set let me know, ok?

you can find them on Amazon or local cook-ware-gadget type places.
I can't recall what I paid for the 12" one...$20 something?? My local kitchen store had a 25% off coupon...each time they have the coupons, I stock up on another size bowl :o
The 9" I think was $10 or something like that...I'll try to find an amazon link and edit to post the link.

OK, try this:

I am picky about my mixing bowls. :p I collect these like some do Cookie jars. :p I just purchased a set from the Bakers catalog. They are white with a blue motif. Set of 3.

Another favorite of mine, I got from William Sonoma. They also have a matching mixing bowl. I bought 2 sets, one white and one lemon yellow. The yellow you can only get from the web site. Its a set of 3 and they come in more colors.

I purchased a set of 5 multi colored bows from Crate and Barrel similar to the ones above.

Now I think I need the ones posted by Linda in MO, both sets..lol

Since they're on sale, I'm thinking about these:

http://www.coldwatercreek.com/aspx/product.aspx?np=true&deptid=3&productid=10888&ensembleid=9894&shp_id=68ED9923-076A-5E63-D66E-3355203FF314

They'd only be $20 with the 50% off code from the other thread.

I love those C&B bowls. I have been very, very good indeed in resisting them. So far. I especially like that they're high. For all the bowls I have, 90% of the time I wind up working in (the latest set of) good ol' Copco for that exact reason.

Bob, thanks for your comments. I've never heard of copco. I did a search and they look like the OXO bowls. Is it the same company?

Stephanie, that's one of the reasons I'm hesitant to order the ones Peggy has. When I called the company, she said the bowls were very heavy. Here's another set from C&B that are very similar to the bowls I posted above but they are made of melamine.
