Seeing the thread on clementines, and squeezing the last batch for juice (which sounds AMAZING!!!), I'm curious - what equipment do you use for squeezing OJ? The hand-held cone-shaped thingy, where you press the half orange over the cone to extract the juice? Or an electric juicer? I don't want to spend a fortune on the thing, but want it to be effective.

I have an electric model from the 70's that I inherited from my parents. I use it occaisionally and I'm glad I have it when I do. Last summer I made real lemonade for my kids and their lemonade stand and it was a life saver. I think there are many inexpensive models out there like Black & Decker. I haven't used the manual one just electric.

We use the Juiceman II (as seen on TV). We've had it 5 years now and use it all the time. Orange juice is our standard but we like to experiment with other fruits & veggies. Clemenines are good to mix in with oranges as are cranberries or pineapple. With this machine, many fruits don't need to be peeled, just cut them up and go.

Here is a tip I found on juicing:
roll the lemons, limes, oranges etc until they get soft. Cut into halves, quarters, etc and then hand squeeze.
It is easy (and I have small hands)

I use the hand cone shape thingy that is glass. I use it because its real old and was one that my grandmothers probably used. Somehow the juice taste better.... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I use the 'cone-shaped thing' since it is fast, and EASY to clean. Anything that has to be taken apart and washed (a juicer) each time is too much work for a glass of juice.

Mamasue: I know how you feel about using your grandmother's "stuff" - I still use my mom's old Revere copper bottom 1 quart saucepan - makes me feel good to have my mom's and grandmother's kitchen items in my own home. My dishes were my aunt's and I use them everyday, even though they are china - what are they for, anyway? Somehow we are a little bit closer to those we love - don't you think?
