Since tonight is OPEN THAT BOTTLE NIGHT, what IS everyone opening?

Although ours isn't that old, it is very dear to us, because it is from the area in Australia that my husband is from...and we were shocked to find it locally...and relatively cheap, at around $42.00.

Cape Mentelle
Western Australia
Cabernet Sauvignon 1996
Margaret River

CHEERS!

We were talking about opening a bottle of Cakebread cabernet, not sure of the year. However, I have such a raging sore throat - I am not certain that I would enjoy it!

I'm going to a scout barbeque dinner -- no vino. :( But maybe DH and I can open a blttole if we don't get home too late. :)

We've been invited for dinner so not sure what to bring...probably the Cawaara syrah-cab blend from Lindemans(sp?)...and open something new (and untested :D ) once the wine-cellar is completed (read friday coffee klatch on weekend project) :)

Well, we didn't have a bottle of old wine sitting around, but we definitely wanted to participate in the spirit! So, we are having a Luna Di Luna Merlot Cabernet blend that we received two years ago. I have the Flank Steak marinated with shallots from CL Sep 02 in my fridge waiting for it!

We are going to have one tonight and one tomorrow with company...:p
Tonight is Schuetz Oles Vesuvium '97 (Zin/Cab) and tomorrow is a
'93 Zonnebloem Pinotage.

I asked some gentlemen at a local wine shop today about what they might be opening tonight and both were clueless to the occasion! Scary!

We opened a bottle of 2002 homebrewed Meade. Ended up being a bit on the strong side...perhaps still a little green. A co-worker and my DH made separate batches of a similar meade and we were comparing them. What fun! :)

Fall Creek Merlot from 2000. This is the last bottle from a case ex-BF and I bought. Opened it last night over dinner with a new friend. Hopefully doesn't bring me any bad luck.

We had a 1990 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon. Outstanding bottle of wine and quite expensive if you bought it today. (If it is even available. They sell out on a regular basis). We picked it up at the winery in 1994.

Peggy, I tried a '99 Silver Oak Cab a couple of months ago and swooned. Not sure if you can still get the '90 but I'm here to tell you that the '99 is terrific! :D

shoyski,

IMHO, Silver Oak Cabs are the King of Cabs!:p They just don't get any better than that. It is their specialty and the only varietal that they produce (outside of some outstanding ports). We have some 1997s in the cellar aging. Can't wait to open one of them up!;)
