I just booked tickets to Santa Fe for a wedding in June. After the intial shock of how much money this trip is going to cost us, I am trying to find interesting things to see and do. And especially where to eat!
I read Julie's post from last spring and I wrote down those suggestions. But I am hoping with all of the new people here, that there will be some other suggestions.
I know we will be staying on Cerrillos Rd and the wedding is at the Loretto Chapel and reception at La Fonda. Should be an amazing wedding!
I also know we will be going to the Georgia O'Keefe mus. and the Indian Arts. Any other suggestions?
TIA!!
Linsley- lucky you! We are actually going there during the second week in March (during spring break) but only for a night and a day. We'll be spending the rest of the time in Alb with my sister and her family.
I was just checking out some Santa Fe sites last week and La Fonda looks wonderful!
Not that this matters, but are you flying right into Santa Fe? It might be cheaper to fly into Alb and drive to Santa Fe. It's only about an hour from there. American West has direct flights into Alb now.

Hi Sue! We are flying into Alb. for the exact reasons. The cheapest flights I found were on Delta for some strange reason.
La Fonda really looks awesome, but it's so darned expensive! It would cost us $1,000 for the time we are there if we stayed there! No thanks.
Santa Fe is extremely expensive but it will be neat to see the Southwest!
You'll have to let me know what you did there on your trip since you go before me!:)
Linsley- Don't know if you saw this web site http://www.santafe.org/ but it has lots of good info. You can also check on events happening on the exact days that you'll be there, get them to send you a big visitors brochure, etc.

I have their cookbook and have purchased a few things from them online!
linsleyd-Santa Fa is a favorite spot of DH and I. There are so many great things to see and do..and eat! If you can, take a walking tour to the Cross of the Martyers. It tells the history of Santa Fe...I can't give you directions or a phone number but anyone at your hotel should be able to. Also, take a minute and see the staircase at the Loretto Chapel, 207 Old Santa Fe Tr. www.lorettochapel.com. If you have time for a day trip, try Taos, New Mexico is north of Santa Fe...the mountain drive is great. In Taos the Taos Pueblo is very interesting. It is a little north of Taos the town.
There is great shopping and all kinds of galleries in Santa Fe. Canyon Road has lots of art galleries and little shops and cafes/restaurants.
I don't know if you are interested in plants at all but, there is a big garden center there...High Country Gardens at 2902 Rufina Street.
We have 3 special...favorite restaurants. You should really try (if you have the time) to have breakfast at Pasqual's, 121 Don Gaspar Ave. phone: 505-983-9340. There is always a line so put you name on the list and do some shopping/walking around while you wait...fun place to eat and good food. We've also had great meals (breakfast and lunch) at Tortilla Flats, 3139 Cerrillos phone: 505-471-8685. For a nice dinner you might try Vanessie of Santa Fe, 434 West San Francisco, phone: 505-982-9966. They do take reservations.
Hope this helps. Let us know how your trip goes! Didn't mean to go on so long.

I wish I was going back to NM!!! We visited bil and sil last summer. They live in ABQ. What a fun vacation! There are so many interesting hikes and national monuments to visit ... a little different than what we see here in the Northeast. I think the name of the park near Sant Fe is Bandelier.
Anyway, one of my best days was when DH and his brother took the DB's up the Sandia tram. SIL was going to school, so I borrowed one of their cars and went to Santa Fe by myself. I visited the Georgia O'Keefe museum (wonderful!) and took myself to lunch! I found a little brewpub and even had a beer!:D You can't miss on the food .. and shopping. ;)
Edited: I found the name of the brewpub. It's fun, they have outdoor seating depending on the weather, and is locatd downtown. Enjoy!

Thanks for your suggestions, I'm definetly trying to find out a lot about the town because I don't want to spend five days sitting at the pool at the hotel!
Jean, the wedding that we are going to is at the Loretto Chapel, so I will really get to see it in action!
I noted down the restuarants in my guide to check out when we're there. When I made reservations for the hotel I made sure they had a gym so I can truly enjoy the food!
Anyone else with suggestions, please let me know!

Santa Fe is wonderful! I love the shops - lots of beautiful American Indian pottery and jewelry.
As for restaurants, I recommend Santacafe (www.santacafe.com (http://www.santacafe.com)). They serve southwestern food with an Asian flair. Very interesting - and good!!
