Long time lurker, first time poster.
My Spanish friend has asked me for my recipe for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (recipe from the former Commisary Restaurant for you Philadelphians) that she ate at our house during their visit to the US. Of course, it is all in cups/teaspoons/ounces. I was able to do the translation for the teaspons and ounces, but I ran into difficulty when it came to the dry ingredients (flour, sugar,
etal). Does anyone know how to convert cups into kilos without using a scale (since I don't have one)? Is there a source which will say flour weighs this much, brown sugar weighs that much, etc. I have the classic textbook from the Culinary Institute, which gave me some conversions, but none for weight. My next task will then be to translate the directions into Spanish.

Thanks. Emily

Welcome to the BB Emily! :)

Try the Measurement Conversions Page (http://allrecipes.com/cb/ref/convert/conversions.asp) at Allrecipes.com - I believe it has most of the information you're seeking.

Good luck!

Here is a UK site that you just plug in the ingredient and amount and it figures it for you...

Thanks for your suggestions. I will check them out this weekend and see how far I get. And MinEaston, I will let you know if I get stuck with the translating.

My children live in Belgium and I gave them a set of measuring cups and spoons to make things easier. I never have to translate these recipes anymore ! Maybe you could send your friend a set ?
