Calling the Virgin Islands

I have a friend in the Virgin Islands and the phone number is a 340 area code. If I call, am I paying US long distance rates or overseas rates? Does anyone know?

I think it would depend on your individual long-distance plan ... I know that answer isn't much help, but I think to be sure you should check with your long-distance carrier.
