I realize "tea" isn't exactly food, but I thought I'd post this here anyway as just a review. I did a search, and saw the many threads about tea in the past, but there hasn't been one for quite some time, so I thought I'd share anyway :p.
I'm on a tea kick. And I don't think I'll be off this kick for a while either ;) I've been enjoying several different excellent varieties lately, a habit that started when I got really sick a few months back, and I began drinking several cups of tea a day. I'm convinced that the tea played a huge part in helping me mend...
Anyway, I just wanted to recommend with two very enthusiastic thumbs up a number of the teas I've been enjoying lately. Sometimes, I think people might be apprehensive to try teas with a different sort of twist, but these are amazing (they're all by Celestial Seasonings):
English Toffee - my newest flavour addition (I was drinking it in class today, and a couple people commented that it smelled great - little do they know it tasted 100 times better)
Honey Chamomile - excellent with a drop or two of vanilla as well
Vanilla Hazelnut - to die for!
... and when I run out of the honey chamomile (the end is nearing :(), I plan on trying the vanilla almond (I think that's what it was called)...
Anyone else tried any unusual, but fantastic teas lately?
Kayla :)

Tea Tea Tea! Yum Yum Yum!
I LOVE tea! I must have a cup of tea every morning as soon as I get to work otherwise I resemble the grinch...right before he stole Christmas. :)
I have had the English Toffee & Vanilla Hazelnut tea & both are delish! :)
Currently, I am really enjoying the Republic of Tea Pink Grapefruit Green tea. It is their special Sip for the Cure (proceeds go the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation) tea.
:D
We drink tons of tea here, and especilly like Black Currant and Republic of Tea's
Blackberry Sage!

I have some peppermint green tea that is really good. However, Kayla, you have now convinced me that I need to try the flavors you mentioned...
I love tea!

yum! those sound so good. I love tea too. the new one that I tried was a green tea that had jasmine and passion fruit? i think. I am still drinking the "london fog" version that someone posted several months ago that is made with steeping a teabag in a cup of milk and adding vanilla and a little sweetener. i love it in the evening when Ive had a long day
Kayla, Who makes the English Toffee tea? It sounds great.
My current favorite is Republic of Tea's Ginger Peach Tea. DH gave me a jar as part of my valentine's gift last year.
My all time favorite tea is Licorice Spice by Stash. I also like their Morrocan Mint tea (it makes the best iced tea).

I'll keep an eye out for the Grapefruit Green tea - sounds delicious!

I've never tried the berry ones before - but I know I love berries in general, so I'll have to give 'em a try :)

Well, then, my job here is done :o ;)
I've never brought myself to get the peppermint teas I try, because I guess I'm afriad it will taste like drinking chewing gum? But that's silly I know - I think I'll try just one bag at a Starbucks or Second Cup, and if I enjoy it I'll pick some up at the store!

Oooo, green tea with jasmine AND passion fruit? Sounds really different but yummy, too :) And I hadn't seen the London Fog recipe, but I'm definitely making that tonight before I go to bed - sounds excellent!

Hiya :) Celestial Seasonings makes all the teas I listed - I think I'm kind of biased, because after finding one I loved made by them, I haven't gotten many other brands  , but that will definitely change with some of the suggestions I've gotten from you guys!
I'm not the hugest fan of Licorice, but if I ever see it in a single bag at a coffee or tea bar, I'll give it a shot - try everything at least once, right? The Ginger Peach sounds delish as well!

Do these flavored teas (like the toffee and hazelnut) actually have tea leaves in them or are they more like an herbal tea? Just wondering since I drink tea daily, but I usually buy Earl Grey or green tea as they have so many health benefits that are not necessarily found in herbal teas.

Kayla, I like all those teas too. Have you tried Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice ? It is sooo good. It's spicy with a hint of sweetness and has been my favorite since I first tried it. They have one with Canadian maple that's pretty good too.

I love tea, but find my tea preferences are very seasonal. I like the heartier Earl Gray, Irish Breakfast, Oolong in the winter. I am going to have to make a note to add that toffee one to my shopping list in October! Does that sound yummy. However, I am finally able to take out my summer teas. My current favorite is Tazo Passion infusion with hibiscus and other tropical flavors. I also like lemon lift and Republic of Tea's Metabolic Frolic with Mango. Not to mention plain old Rose's iced tea. Any other summer tea drinkers?

Disclaimer - I can only drink decaf, so that limits my options.
My new favorite is Tazo's Honeybrush Tea. My future mother-in-law introduced me to Tazo and I'm forever grateful!
I'm also a big fan of chamomile, peppermint, and Celestial Seasonings' Red Zinger. Peppermint is particularly helpful for stuffy sinuses, or as a revitalizer first thing in the morning or during an afternoon slump.

I love Bengal Spice. I have yet to buy any other tea since I found this one, and have to travel about 40 miles from my house to get it! It is awesome. (And, on Celestial Seasonings' website you can find the store nearest you that sells it.) :D Gina

Yeah, but now my problem is going to be finding them, I think! With the big move I am SO limited in selection. Makes me think hmmm, job, better grocery selection, job...I just don't know!!!! ;)
As for peppermint tea, I don't think you taste it so much as you smell it. At least that's true for me. Now, I also have some apple cinnamon tea and that FAINTLY reminds me of warm apple cider, which is not a bad thing.

I'm not sure it's unusual per se, but I bought a pack of Market Spice tea bags at Pikes Market in Seattle last June. They are incredibly strong, and it took me a bit to warm up to them. Seriously, I only leave the bag in the water for about 15 seconds.
My usual suspects are that, chamomile, or CS Orange Spice teas. Occasionally I'll have some green tea. I can't stand Oolong. It's like hot, liquid charcoal briquette. Ick.
I've cut out black teas to lessen my caffeine intake-- well, actually it was so tea would count towards my water for the day.

Wow Gina, you really do love Bengal Spice to travel 40 miles to get it! I just checked the site and tried to order some Roastarama but they don't ship to Canada. I just tried some last week and it's yummy too, kinda like coffee without the side effects.
Lisa, I buy loose Market Spice tea from a tea shop here and it's the most flavorful tea I've ever had. It makes my day when I have a cup.

Hi Kathy,
I drink regular tea from tea leaves from a wonderful market near-by called Kensington. Unfortunately, these teas I mentioned I don't think are made from tea leaves - mostly just herbal.
Here are the ingredients: Roasted carob, roasted chicory root, roasted barley, natural English toffee flavour, cinnamon, lo han kuo (your guess is as good as mine on that one ;)), milk thistle seed...

...and, I think I will open the flood gates on this one, but... they have recipes too. I think the cauliflower soup looks delish :D

Celestial Seasoning's Decaf Mandarin Grove Green Tea. YUM! I also have the Mint one, but I absolutely LOVE the Mandarin one. Come to think of it, though, I bet the mint green tea would make some killer iced tea. I think I'll make a batch before I leave the house.
I'll also make some wonderful Jasmine Tea that a friend of mine brought back from Taiwan. It smells just like a bouquet of flowers ... :)

I've been seeing the Yogi tea brand for the first time in a local natural and whole foods store I shop at... I've been meaning to try it if I can, and, well, if someone from the BB tries it, then I will have to too!

Mmmm, a thread so close to my heart! I love the fruity decaf teas. Only rarely do I drink caffeine - it sends me over the edge. If you like ginger (ok, I guess you have to love ginger) the Yogi Tea lemon and ginger is a must try. I love Rote Gruetze, too. Mmmmmmm.

Another tea lover here. I usually get into a rut and happily stay in it. Lately it has been Lipton's Lemon herbal tea. For some reason I like it better than the Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zinger...who knows? I am also a longtime Earl Grey fan. And when I'm sick, like now, the best thing is Tealuxe's Throat Tender tea. It's amazing.
If any of you haven't checked out www.tealuxe.com - you must. It's a tea shop that started in Cambridge, Mass. and now has a few stores around Boston and maybe a few other places on the east coast. They have a wonderful, amazing variety of tea...and you can order it on the internet! I discovered Tealuxe when I actually lived in Cambridge, and was so sad when I moved away, but thankfully they started selling online after that so now I can get my Throat Tender whenever a cold hits me!

I have recently discovered Lipton's Chai Tea-Latte! I have not had regular, plain Chai Tea (isn't that redundant?) so I don't know how much of the Chai flavor is in this hot drink. It reminds me of a creamy hot chocolate. The directions say to pour boiling hot water over the mix, but I do half milk, half water. I do not drink coffee or hot tea, so this is a great alternative to both. I'm addicted and I must go get a cup NOW!!

I looooove Oolong tea. Can't stand green and herbal teas - they're nasty. :o My current tea of choice is Republic of Tea Vanilla-Almond. Central Market sells almost every variety of Republic of Tea in bulk, so you can pick up a sampler amount for a few cents and see if you like it, before you spend 10 bucks on a whole canister.
Around the holidays, I picked up Celestial Seasonings Nutcracker Sweet, which is also very good. I was a little disturbed (and surprised) to learn that an 8 ounce cup of black tea has the same amount of caffeine as 8 ounces of Coke. :( I've cut back on my tea intake, but I still like a cup in the afternoon or at night before bed.

Terri - this is my fav tea as well. Check out the fav tea brand thread for more info on my equivalent of the "Oil for Food" program! I love the Lady Londonderry (strawberry and lemon) and the Pear and Pomegranate. And the Rote Gruetze rivals any I had in Germany!

My favorite teas vary with my mood and the season. But I find my favorite stand-byes are:
Ti Kwan Yi (Iron Goddess of Mercy ~ an oolong if I remember right)
Minnesota Rouser
Jasmine
Green Tea with Mango
Green Tea (as long as it's not too 'vegetative')
Empire Keemun
and Earl Grey. Oh! And Celetial Seasonings "Sleepy Time". And for variety I like Big Train Chai.
Umm...I think that's everything. I purchase my tea loose leaf from the Tea Source in St. Paul, MN. So that's why I don't have specific brands. :)

Oh, Eva, the Vanilla-Almond sounds great... I swear to goodness I'm going to be broke after this evening, but at least my purse, hands, and maybe even pockets will be overflowing with tea ;)
I can't believe I forgot to mention the Nutcracker Sweet... I had it over the holidays at a friend's house for the very first time. Come to think of it, it was on her recommendation that I bought Celestial Seasonings tea when I became sick... just think I owe it all (including this thread :D) to her!

Well, I just posted on the other tea thread... why not this one too :D
I love Earl Grey, and recently discovered that Tetley sells loose teas on their website (they also have an excellent customer service department. They forgot my teaball in my first shipment, and replaced it quickly for me, expedited shipping, and a hand-written apology.) I've taken to making my tea in a French press coffee maker. The Earl Grey has flower blossoms in it, which look so pretty. They also have a great vanilla flavoured black tea, and a cranberry-apple tea that is huge pieces of apples and whole dried cranberries. I am a huge advocate for loose teas :D

Kayla that is so sweet of you!! I just may take you up on that, but first, let me take a good long look at what I do have available. I pretty much bypassed the teas when I had my first grocery shopping expedition because I already had some of the peppermint green tea at home, (which by the way, is made by Wagners...it was a gift). I'll make a more careful search this weekend.
Incidentally, I had a cup tonight, in a white mug. The tea has left a brown "scum" around the rim....is that normal??? I've never noticed that before, but I've been using dark colored mugs before...

Erin - it is normal for teas, especially black teas, to leave a bit of a scum around the top. Unfortunately! But it does come off quite easily.

Thanks 1MegMeg for the Pink Grapefruit tea suggestion. I had looked at it before but, your recommendation gave me to courage to try it. It's really good.
I also bough Republic of Tea Capetown Harvest (a red tea). This stuff is awesome. It's fruity with a slight strawberry taste. Plus, it's caffeine-free so, good for night time.
Also, I have Tazo Calm (their chamomile). It's a great blend that's a bit minty and pretty light.
Carrie
I also like the Pink Grapefruit, but I haven't seen the Capetown Harvest. That and the English Toffee sound interesting. My other favorites are Jasmine (one DH brought back from China and Republic of Tea's Jazzy Jasmine -- a limited edition that's no longer available), Republic of Tea's Ti Kuan Yin (another Republic of Teas limited edition that's no longer available strengthen the spirit tea -- who couldn't use that now & then?), and Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime. Think there's any chance of getting Republic of Teas to bring back those lost favorites?

At Tealuxe.com my personal favorites are: Ginger Ginseng & Ginseng Green Chai. As Badunnin mentioned Lady Londonderry & Pear and Pomegranate are great too. Copley Vanilla and Extra Bergamot Earl Grey are also wonderful. Too many to mention -- there is something for every taste and tea need!
Thanks to the link for Tealuxe. I'm going to have to try some of those teas -- and it looks like they have some better than average jasmine and a Ti Kwan Yin that might replace my Republic Of Teas limited editions when they are gone. My older son is also getting interested in teas for soothing his throat and helping him sleep at night, so I may sample some of those types, and with the 10 grs for $1-2 in most of the teas and a free shipping offer ($25 order), we can try a number of them reasonably.

my favorites are lapsang souchang, and lipton. :) i was so excited to discover i liked cheap old lipton tea.
question: y'all are talking about hot tea, but i am wanting to make myself some sweet tea, and i like to use both sugar and some sort of sugar substitute b/c i eat too much sugar. what do you think is the best substitute? i like splenda, but it's so expensive. i know equal tastes better than sweet and low, but i thought there might be some special issues about sweet tea--you know, if you have a well-developed palette for sweet tea, you might be able to tell a difference, like the way mexican coke tastes better than american coke b/c they use sugar instead of corn syrup, or something like that.

I get a stomache ache if I drink black tea without cream or milk. Since it's a pain to keep at work, I drink a lot of herbal and decaf.
The Republic of Tea Ginger Peach comes in a decaf, and it's a great very mild tea. I LOVE their cinnamon cardamom...yummy yum yum.
When I want something that feels heartier (but still herbal) I drink Good Earth tea.
When I'm at home, I also drink Republic of Tea Vanilla Almond. My aunt just bought me the pink grapefruit, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm going to try it right away, now. Thanks!

Sarah - I just got some tea from the 'luxe from a friend in boston this weekend, and tried the raspberry earl grey. it's awesome, and i can see it making great iced tea. also in my package were rote gruetze, lady londonderry and lady hannah (which is a fruit tea - no caffeine).

Fall and winter are hot tea seasons for me. During the spring and summer, iced tea is my beverage of choice. I was just thinking that Republic of Tea's pink grapefruit green tea sounded like it might make an interesting iced tea. Those of you who have tried it, how do you think it would be iced?
The RoT's blackberry sage, by the way, is FABULOUS iced. It has long been one of our favorites!

Tea! Love it!
I, too, like Republic of Tea's Ginger Peach, especially in summertime.
I love French Vanilla and try to drink a couple of cups of green tea a day for the health benefits. I tasted a ginger green tea which I wish I could buy somewhere. Does anyone know who makes it?
Some other teas I love: the heavily bergamotted Earl Greys, blood orange, and I heard that Starbucks makes a vanilla cream that I really want to try. Has anyone tasted it?
Sunny
Robyn, the pink grapefruit is pretty light. I think the flavor would be good iced, but it will not be as robust as the typical iced tea. Steep it well and you might want to chill it -- or at least let it come to room temp before pouring it over ice.

Carrie
Carrie,
I am glad you like the Pink Grapefruit tea. I think it has a delicious unique flavor. :)

Hi Kayla and everyone!
This morning I had breakfast out on a patio overlooking the mountains! Inside, I bought some loose leaf teas, 2 oz. each of Caramel, Apricot, and Vanilla. I had enjoyed the caramel with breakfast, and it was luscious. I can't wait to taste the Apricot.
Thanks to those who wrote about Tealuxe. I have bookmarked the link. The Copley Vanilla and raspberry Earl Grey (oh my goodness!!) sound great.

If you liked this spice tea from Pike Place market, try it iced in the summer. It is so sweet on it's own you don't need to add sugar. Also it does come in a decaffeinated form. The first time I went into the store at "the market" I was amazed by all the different varieties of tea they had. Cool place for the tea lover!

Thanks for reposting the London Fog recipe. I'll have to dig through my basket of teas and see if I have any Earl Grey left in the house.
