Now that it's official and I've had a moment or two to simmer down, I thought I ought to post my good news to share it with all of you!

We bought a house!!

We're both thrilled with our purchase -- it's a truly lovely house: a fine little grey bungalow with a turret on the front. :) Just what we were looking for. And we came out below budget -- so that's a definite plus!

Thanks so much to all of you who came to our rescue with advice about financing -- and thanks, too, to those of you who gave me infinite love and support during the journey!

:D :) :D :) ;)

Congratulations!

That's such exciting news. Do you have any pictures? I have always had a sweet spot for bungalows; I love them. Unfortunately, there aren't very many around here, so they're not really an option.

How wonderful you have a new "nest" to make your own!!

Congratulations! I love the turret - DBF's family's old house had one and I always thought it gave the house a castle-like look.
Best of luck to you!

wallycat -
We didn't end up buying in Wauwatosa, no. Love 'Tosa, but we decided we could buy bigger and better elsewhere -- and so we took the opportunity. We're cheaters. We're not FAR from 'Tosa, so we can still reap the benefits of the nice neighborhoods without paying for them :)

Yeah! That's such a great house! Congrats! Like Susan, I have a soft spot for bungalows. They're all over Houston, so I have the best walks through the neighborhoods checking them out :)

Nice photo! I'm imagining it with flowers in front, maybe a dogwood (love 'em!), and I'm arranging furniture inside.

Are you going to use the round room in front for a sunroom?

Very nice! And under budget, too!

CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES!!!

Absolutely flowers! And the dogwood is a nice idea too! (anyone know if those grow well in WI?) I'm SO looking forward to wiggling my hands around in that dirt this summer!!!

Yes, we're contemplating ways to use the turret as a sunroom. It really acts as the entry area for the house -- so the mood will be important :)

Lorilei, Congratulations!!!

What a beautiful and quaint house!! The front is absolutely one-of-a-kind, and the turret adds such a wonderful charm :)

I hope you have a terrific time in your new home, and may you make many wonderful memories there too!

Cheers,
Kayla

But, I'm surprised no one's asked this yet - what's the kitchen like? ;)

I'm so jealous! I want a turret! Before we moved from St. Louis, I was sure I could find a lovely brick home with a turret. Don't see so many out here though.

Congratulations!

Kim - There are a few turrets around here, but not many :) You'll find yours someday -- I know it!!

And Shirley -
The kitchen... is not HUGE (it's only 10x10), but it's beautifully bright, has a dishwasher (!) and has an alcove for the appliances -- so the 100ft of space is "real" :) The kitchen needs a great deal of minor cosmetic work (there's nasty wallpaper and a crummy floor) -- but I'm excited to get down to business. And even MORE excited to buy new appliances!!

Congrats! Our first house in Milwaukee was a bungalow, too. It didn't have a turret, but the front porch was a sun-room of sorts. Made for a nice sitting area. It also had a sort of alcove for the refrigerator and lots of cabinets. It only had 2.5 closets for the entire house, though! :o

I'm guessing your in Washington Heights??? Do you have cool hardwood floors and built-ins in the dining room?

So what kind of house do you guys have now? I'm envisioning something gorgeous!

We're actually NOT in the heights. We looked at some things there that looked great on the outside -- but most needed a TON of work inside. This one is actually just north of Wauwatosa :)

Didn't I mention that Val was coming to live with us? :D

She's going to keep us away from sugar, since sugar makes us hyperactive.

And you would be so WRONG. :p

We live in a big old frame Dutch Colonial. In fact, the first time we looked it up through a realtor's open house listing, we didn't even go in. It doesn't have much street appeal (although we have done some landscaping that has helped). It was still on the market a few months later and the owner was getting desperate. It DOES have a lot of character inside, though. And it is big -- 4 bedrooms plus a den, two full baths, and a huge master bedroom with attic windows (think Amityville Horror)....now, if I just had some decorating sense (cents).

Lori- Congratulations! Your house looks absolutely lovely. After living for too long in a suburb where every house looks the same, I am longing for a house with a unique character of its own. Your new home looks like it has exactly that! Have fun putting your own special touch on it :)

Hey, guys --
Just got back from a weekend in North Dakota (visiting friends for a baptism). I missed many of the fond wishes left after I went home on Friday...

Just wanted to thank all of you -- again. You've all been a great amount of help and support. And both me and my DH appreciate it!!

(Jackie - I'm sure your house is just lovely :) Some of those old colonials have real charm... even if their curb appeal is someone scant)
