I am a new bride and I can honestly say that two of the best gifts I received are my KitchenAid Ultra Power stand mixer and my KitchenAid Food Processor. However I am having a bit of a problem. I tend to use the food processor most often for onions, garlic, very pungent foods. I cannot seem to eliminate the onion odor from the food processor no matter how well I think I am washing the pieces. I am reluctant to use it for things like cheesecake when the onion odor lingers. Any suggestions for how to eliminate the odor? I've already tried lemon juice. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Congrats, Meg O'C. I just got married last year and know the joy of new kitchen toys http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
I am not sure if this will work for a food processor, but I use coffee grounds to get strong odors off my hands.

Hi Meg,
That's a very good question! After chopping onions, garlic, etc., process a piece of bread in the machine, empty the bowl and wash it in your dishwasher. This will get the odors out. If you don't have a dish washer do the above, only soak the bowl for a while in hot soapy water.
To really solve the problem, get one of those inexpensive mini choppers (food processors)$20 to use for you onions, garlic and the like. That is what I now do.

Baking soda. Put some water and baking soda in the bowl and let it soak for awhile. Should take all the smell out.
