Well, DH and I just bought a new house and car (didn't want to but mine died:( - thanks for all the help from anyone who wrote in to my new car thread!) and now our double oven isn't working. We knew it was in bad shape when we bought the house and figured we'd have to replace it before too long. We didn't realize it would be this soon though....yikes, we're spending a lot of money! Anyway, I thought you all might have some advice since I've never purchased an oven before. The one we have now is a 24" double oven so we'd like to replace it with the same. We also really want to keep the cost down. Any brands you recommend, think we should stay away from, etc.? Thanks for your advice!

I'd stay away from Thermador, but since you are keeping the cost down, I doubt that this was an option. I have had nothing but trouble from mine. In fact, they replaced my oven and I still have problems. Lesson learned, buying an expensive oven is not always the best. Why don't you check with Consumer Digest?

Your choices will probably be limited if you are looking for a 24" oven. Mine is 30" and a GE (it came with this house). My favorite was my Jenn-Air I had in my last house. I chose it and just loved it. Both top and bottom were self-clean, I never had a problem with it. With this one, only the top is self-clean, so I avoid the bottom for messy baking.

I found a 24" Maytag double oven that seems reasonably priced. Anyone have an opinion on Maytag?

I love Maytag Washers and Dryers, and Jenn-Air is a Maytag line. I've have no problems with either company. In my last house I had a J-A fridge, cooktop, double oven and DW. We had them for 3 years and no problems. If you like it, and it's in your price range, I see no reason not to go for it.
