View Full Version : Is it time for another swap?
LaraW

I saw that someone had mentioned swap partners on another thread, and I had been wondering recently if maybe it was time for another swap?
If so, I'd be happy to organize it.
What do you think? Do you want to do one now or do you want to wait until a little later in the summer?

Well, we have done this 2 other times -
The first time we were paired up with another person and sent some regional type of items for the gift package. I think we had a limit of $15 or $20, I don't remember which.
The second time was a holiday swap, and at least my partner and I did a "regional" type of swap. Again we had a $ limit of $15 or $20.

I'm assuming the $15-20 doesn't include shipping?

I missed the summer swap last year because I don't get at the computer much once school ends, but the Christmas one was so much fun that if you don't mind mailing to Canada, I'd love to be involved! :D

Count me in, too, please!
I have a local cookbook but frankly, I'd be embarrassed to send it to anyone and I ordered 4 before they were published. It's done by the KJZT Lodge of our Catholic church (it's a Czech woman's organization). I thought it would be full of family recipes for Czech cooking but it's mostly recipes using pantry items (canned soup and such). So if I could broaden it to a state cookbook I think it would be great!

I'm in! And I don't think it's too soon, either- by the time we are all organized and actually send/receive, it will have been 6 months since the holiday swap (I had the wonderful luck to be partnered with Eva aka Aggie94)! :)
I'm happy to help with organizing, too- just let me know.

YAY! It looks like there is some interest!
How about if we set a deadline of the 19th of May for people to either respond to this thread or email me with their interest.
If your little profile next to your name does not have where you live, please email me or let me know what it is so that I can match you up with someone in another part of the country.
I am going on vacation (according to DH it is NOT vacation - it is a trip: my sister's graduation) and will be home the evening of the 19th. I will get everyone set up with their partners then.
I think the idea of a local or state cookbook swap is great! Why don't we leave it up to individual swap partners, since those who may not have participated in a swap before may want to do what we did last time.
What do you think - would a date of getting your package in the mail by June 15 work? That will give us almost a month.
What do you think - I am just suggesting dates, here, so if anyone has any better ideas please chime in.
Beth H

I think that the dates that you have suggested sound pretty good. I also like the idea of local/state cookbooks. I was not involved in the other swaps so anything sounds great to me! I am glad that there is a lot of interest in this and I am excited to find some regional items! Keep us posted. I am in eastern Iowa, which I think is stated in my profile.

I'm definitely game for my 3rd swap!! I ended up with some WONDERFUL goodies from my previous partners, nlh & clover, and can't wait to swap again.
Consider me among the advocates for a local cookbook-themed swap. Since I'm 30 minutes from the Culinary Institute of America, someone might make out pretty nicely... ;) I'm in the Hudson Valley region (1/2 way between NYC and Albany, just west of the Hudson River) and would truly enjoy a cookbook from ANYWHERE, especially Canada!

I am in if it's for cookbooks-they are pretty easy to ship from here. Is it a cookbook swap? Or is that between the people? I love regional cookbooks so if anyone wants one from Victoria (Andrea!!!;) ) then I am in!

Unless anyone wants to cut this off sooner, really, it does not matter to me. We have had a nice response - I think 72 people, so what do you all think? My only thought is if there are people on vacation or something who might want to participate, if we push this over into next week, they might be able to sign up.
The other thought is I could do it on Thursday the 15th before I leave on my trip.

so, I have been "searching" and found lots of threads on swap packages. can someone fill me in on the details? I know it is too late for 2003, but is it an annual thing?
it sounds like a very cool thing to do with another CL BB member.
Hope everyone had a Happy Holiday.
