This isn't food related at all, but I hope you'll understand:

I hesitate to post this, but I feel that I have many friends among you, both those I have met and those I hope to meet, but I want to ask a favor for someone dear to me. My son's preschool teacher left early on Tuesday thinking her father had been admitted to the hospital. When she got there, she found out it was her husband. He is in critical care with double pnuemonia, and I just learned about it this morning.

I don't think I have ever met her husband, but this teacher is a wonderful woman we are very grateful to have in our "family." She has helped us through some tough transitions with our 4 yr old and shared our love and joy in seeing him blossom. I ask your thoughts and prayers for her and her husband in this busy and difficult time. Thanks for understanding, and all my best to you as well.

Beth,

I will be happy to add this wonderful woman and her husband to my prayer list! I will also add your son (and family) as I know what a strain her absence will be on him. Children are so sensitive.

Please let me know how everything turns out!

Hugs!!

Peggy

I'm so sorry to see this. How very difficult for them, especially at this time of year. They will definitely be in my thoughts. Please do let us know how things turn out.

Beth,

I will be praying that God gives this family peace and strength. I also pray that this man's health be fully restored. With this much prayer, miracles are bound to happen.

I will pray for your son's teacher's family. Please don't feel embarrassed asking for prayers-we all could use them! Having had a wonderful woman who taught all three of my sons at that age, I know how important they are to us as parents!
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to help!

Beth,

Please don't feel that you offend people because of this request. We are a family at CL and here when it is needed. Prayers and thoughts are on the way to your teacher's husband, his wife and family.

First of all, I completely agree with you, Mamasue. We are here not only to offer recipes. My thoughts are with this family during this time.

My thoughts and prayers are with this family, and also with yours. This is a tough thing to happen to anyone, but when something like this happens during the holidays, it seems to magnify the worries and concerns. We're all thinking of you, and your teacher's family.
Take care,
Sue

Beth-

Your post brought tears to my eyes -
I have a preschooler too - and I know how important those first teachers are!

I also know the importance of prayer! We send our prayers for your family, the teachers family and lots of hugs for your little one!

Remember that HE is able to do more than we can ask or imagine!

Blessings!

Thanks again. I came on line to see if I had an e-mail with any updates on his condition. My info this morning was from last night, but heard this afternoon that he had a stable night and that was an improvement. That sounds a lot better than one lung collapsed, doesn't look good and they are preparing her. I had to do something right then, and I couldn't get away to see her until DH was home. I know I felt better after reading your replies, and when I go visit her, I'm going to take her a copy of this thread so she will know she is loved and and thought of far beyond the classroom. I guess it was my virtual hug for her.

I was hesitant to post in part because it's not my nature to ask, but also because there are those who are critical if the BB comments stray too far from food, or even when non-CL recipes are posted. It doesn't happen that often, and not for a while. This really is like a family or a close neighborhood, and the beauty of the BB is the support and friendship as well as the overwhelming amount of good cooking info (the humor is priceless too). Thanks again.

Beth please add my best wishes and prayers to the list. One never thinks of anything happening to those close, you've brought reality to the forefront and made me appreciate those I love just that much more.

Our prayers are with you and your friend.

Thank you all so much. I have tears of relief and thanks. I was finishing something for my others son's school on the computer and about to run it over there, but I wanted to check. I was hoping to see at least one post so I would know someone wasn't offended with my personal non-food request. Thanks again, and may your families be blessed with warmth, safety, good health and good cheer!

Beth,

I would like to add the prayers and best wishes from my family to your sons teachers family. I believe at these times it is important to be surrounded by caring and positive people, I think your sons teacher is lucky to have you in her life.

I just wanted to let you know that my son's teacher's husband is still in critical condition and on life support, but his white blood cell count fell a bit and they have turned the ventilator down. We are all hoping that he has turned a corner, but it's hard to know when they don't know what they are battling. The cultures have all been negative, even the B-strep that is know to have this kind of sudden and severe onset.

I did visit her today and took her a copy of the thread as it was this morning. She teared up and was very touched by your prayers, kind thoughts and support. My son gave her an amaryllis, and I hope that by the time it blooms, they will all be home enjoying it (among other things). Thanks again for your support.

Beth,
I'm just reading your post and will add my prayers as well. It sounds encouraging that they were able to turn down some of the ventilator settings and that his white count was down.

By the way, I am of the belief that we are also here to support one another in life as well as in food!

Beth, I will also add your son's teacher to my prayers. Never hesitate to ask for prayer. I like to think we are a little neighborhood here to support each other with whatever problem.

Beth -- I am also praying for your son's teacher's husband. I do believe in the power of prayer and that God heals in both conventional and miraculous ways. Any of us could be in the situation this couple is in, and it is so important to know that people care and are praying. Gaye

I have been praying for you and your son's teacher's family. I also want you to know God is listening; my husband went in for surgery on Tuesday for a possible Cancer recurrence and he was fine. God does listen. Keep the faith and God Bless you!

Kathy, our prayers will go with you as well.

Our son's teacher's husband is still in ICU, but stable and off of life support. That's okay: slow and steady wins the race!

No matter what the stock market is doing, lets all have a happy and healthy new year!

Thanks again for your thought, prayers and support.

Is there an update on how this family is doing?

Beth

I checked recently, and he was out of ICU and. As of yesterday, he was still in a regular room, but I hope he'll be able to start the new year at home.

Thanks again for everyone's thoughts and paryers. This has been a tough month for the health of so many people around us, here and elsewhere. Our thoughts are with all of them also.

Wow...this is my first time on these BBs and I am in awe of the outpouring of support and love present here! Food really is a unifying force. Beth, my prayers are with this family and may their new year be a healthy one.

Well, I was told on Friday that he was still there, but I am told he went home on Thursday. He has oxygen with him, but it's not expected to be long term. Bottom line, he was able to be home to start the New Year, and I can't wait to see my son's teacher and give her another big hug!

Thanks again everyone! I didn't want to say anything at the time, but the day I started this thread and got the first replies each of you and all the powers that be, whatever name you know them by, gave me a peace that told me he was going to be okay, even when I saw him on life support and got scared for her. I believe you helped them, but you also helped me get through a day when there was nothing more I could do. I appreciate both so much. Thank you, and a happy, healthy new year to all!

This is my first time back on the board since well before the holidays, so I know I'm a bit late, but I'm adding my prayers to those of everyone else.

Beth, I must tell you this post brightened my day (though it saddened me to hear of your son's teacher's illness). I say this, because the outpouring of support you've received is so tremendous. I've known for quite some time that this bulletin board is a wonderful, caring, supportive place, but this has confirmed it. I find it refreshing and energizing to see so many people responding so favorably to someone's request for prayers. It brings a bit of the Christmas spirit back to me (while sitting in my office on the first day back to work).

Keep us posted! Our prayers will remain with you and your son's teacher's family.

Becky
