I was in the grocery store the other day and a lady was demoing Enova Oil. I didn't feel like stopping, but she handed me some info with recipes and coupons. I guess this is a new oil and was wondering if anyone uses it. I prefer Canola and Olive oil myself. They have a website www.enovaoil.com if anyone is interested. I took a peek at the site and it looks like the oil is not available everywhere.

The oil has been used quite a bit in Japan for several years.
I read about this oil last year some time, I just don't know enough about it yet.
As I understand, they do some sort of molecular change to it so it passes through and isn't absorbed ....
I'll have to re-read the info from last year to be sure just what they stated about it.

This is what they claim:

The majority of Enova oil is burned as energy, not stored in the body as fat.

It seems to be available in the Chicago area as well as some stores in GA and SC.

I think I will have to pick up some next time I see it.

I'd also be interested to know if it's natural or synthetic. Is this the "splenda" of oils??

The website explains so much on their Q&A page, but here is the answer to your question.

Is Enova oil natural or artificial?

The diacylglycerol (DAG) oil in Enova oil is found in all natural vegetable oils at low concentrations. It is not an artificial fat substitute. We process natural soy and canola oils with a biological enzyme to produce as much DAG oil as possible. The result is identical to the DAG oil already found in soy and canola, just present at a higher concentration.

It's supposed to taste the same as any oil too.

I just read about this oil in Consumer Reports. Has anyone tried it yet? It's available in Chicago and Atlanta stores, but you can also order it on-line.

I have a bottle of Enova...it tastes fine, I've put it on popcorn and used it in cooking. I prefer olive oil, but I use it when I'm feeling more health conscious.

Glad to hear it tastes good. I've been making DH lots of stir-frys lately and I cringe when I see how much oil the broccoli absorbs. I'm wondering if this might be better for him. He also loves french fries. Right now, I'm using canola oil.

I did buy a bottle of it, and have been using it on occasion. I don't sub it for olive oil as in dressings, but I will use it in place of canola oil for sauteeing, etc. I don't notice a difference in taste and I really don't know if it has been benefiting my health. I have seen it in most stores here.

I just bought this a week ago in a local japanese market. At 5.97 for a relatively small bottle, I have not been using it in place of olive oil in dressings and such. It is great in stir fries though, a light tasting flavor and it just makes me feel better to have half as much transfat.

H.E.B. in Texas is now selling Enova. I haven't tried it yet, but I bought a bottle today. It's expensive, so I'm trying to use it judiciously.

Darn, I was trying to find a thread I swear I thought I started over a year ago on this stuff. I bought some once when it first came out- I think I saw an ad on it and purchased some online. Then I persuaded Southern Season (I think) to put it in their stock. I bought a HUGE box 12 or 24 online and tried it out. It really is great stuff. Personally, I like EVOO over any daily use oil, but if I am frying or making salad dressings or fattening stuff like brownies, I will use Enova. It really doesn't have much of a flavor at all.

I wonder if that is the same as Endura? This is:
Non-GMO
Expeller
Physically Refined
Soybean Oil
No preservatives Added

Is this similar?? supposed to be better for cooking.........

Odd to see this thread today since I just noticed this oil in the grocery store (Ralphs) today! Guess it finally hit Los Angeles!

We do have it here. I haven't bought any. The "biologically modified" has me a bit concerned. The WOW potato chips were modified so the fat wasn't absorbed. The grease just slips right through you. I'm not sure I want that to happen with my oil. I can't handle the chips. I know its a different susbstance, but the idea is the same. I think I'll wait a little while and see how it does. Its also really expensive. If you deep fried with it, the fries would be expensive.

Yes, and that's what I wanted to try. To properly deep-fry, I'd have to buy two bottles at about $4.00 each to fill the deep-fryer.

Last night I used it to make CL's oven fries and it worked fine. The only thing I didn't like was I used about a quarter cup of oil (which is what the recipe calls for) and the fries absorbed almost all of it. It seems oven-fry recipes absorb more fat than deep fried fries. But that's another topic.

I may just use the rest in salad dressing or carrot cake.

I bought a bottle about a month ago and have used it several times when the recipe calls for vegetable or canola oil. Noticed no difference in taste. Haven't tried it in making salad dressings.
