Beth - I don't know why it didn't find your version 5 cookbooks. My only previous version was 5 and it found mine OK when I updated to 6. I would suggest going to the Mastercook BB and posting a question. The administrators reply pretty promptly and have always answered my questions.
Don't know the address right now but I think you should be able to find it on a search of this board.

Beth, have you tried just opening one of your 5.0 cookbooks in your 6.0? Do a File/Open and then choose one of your cookbooks from your 5.0 folder. If you can do that, that should automatically update the one you opened.

Beth, I had the same problem when I installed my version 6, the first time. I ended up uninstalling that attempt.
The second time, I installed it directly nto the directory that my version 5 was in. Basically I copied right over it. I had read in the manual that is was supposed to go into that directory. I thought that it would have found it on it's own, but it didn't so I had to "brouse" for it.
Now everything works great. My version 5 cookbooks are now inside version 6.
I deleted the 5.0 shortcut on my desktop and all is well.
Hope this make sense and hope it helps.
Christine
PS I did make a backup copy of my cookbooks -just in case.

Beth, where did you get the software? I tried to look online, but couldn't find a deal including a rebate and CL for a year. Could you, or anyone else, point me in the right direction.
Thanks!
I got the new CL 6.0 for Christmas (after the free year of CL mag, it cost DH about $4 to give me the faster search engine), and the installation went fine, except that it only searched for and tried to update CL4.0 cookbooks. I have about 50 cookbooks set up in CL 5.something. Does anyone know why it didn't pick those up? I am assuming that I will have to go back and manually copy them over to CL 6.0. Anyone have any other thoughts?
My husband bought the program at a Target (might be available on-line, don't know)for $19.99. The CL subsrciption rebate form is available on-line at www.sierrahome.com (http://www.sierrahome.com) if it is not on your package. That is a $16-20 value, so it's practically free, or like getting both at half off.
The $10 rebate is on the regular MasterCook 6.0 program. CL gives you the subscription.

Thanks Beth! That's a good deal.

I just bought the CL 6.0 software at Costco for $25.00. I will receive a $10 rebate, plus a free year of Cooking Light. They're actually paying me to buy it!

Beth,
Don't mean to be dense, but I couldn't find anything about the CL rebate...did you click through to another area of the website to get to it, or do you see it on the home page?
To find the rebate form, once in the website, click on sierra home software in the upper right, then click on rebates in the left column, then pull down the menu in the top window to select the CL rebate. You can then print it. Hope that helps.

Hi, Could anyone with CL 6.0 give me information on the months and years that this new software covers. I am trying to determine if this is a worthwhile purchase. Thanks for any assistance

Liz --
MC CL 6.0 came with two cookbooks -- '92-'94 and '95-'96, each with 700+ recipes. I don't think every recipe from each of those years is included, but it appears to be a sizable collection of the most popular recipes from those years. Do you currently have an older version of MC? I had 5.0 and I'm so glad I got 6.0 for the savings in search time -- the search engine in 6.0 is much quicker. If you can find 6.0 at Target or Costco or a similar store, it will only cost about $20, and will include a free year of CL as long as you buy before 8/31/01 (see above posts on how to print the rebate form from the Sierra site if your rebate form has already been removed from the box like mine was). I figured it was a steal!

I got the update for the faster search engine as well after LauraB's post. For the price, after rebate, it's well worth it, and I'm going to give my old version to SIL to try out.
