I looked for a review of this and didn't find one, so I hope this isn't a repeater thread. I served these last night to some friends helping me set up for a garage sale today and although the burgers themselves were kind of bland, the Tequila-Spiked Salsa was absolutely wonderful! I made the burgers the night before so I wouldn't have to try to make them after work while everyone else was setting up, but the salsa was a last-minute inclusion. I really wasn't going to make it and didn't even have the recipe with me when I went shopping, but I remembered the key ingredients, thank goodness.
The salsa came together very quickly and was outstanding! I would think that this is even better after sitting for a few hours or overnight, but mine didn't last that long! The entire 3 cups were gone with just four adults. One of the guys ate it like a side dish and just piled it on his plate...it was that good. So, I will definately make the salsa again, with or without the burgers. If I do make the burgers again, I will add more chipotle chili powder to give them more kick. I really was expecting more zip. Maybe even add a little Jalapeno Jack cheese on top! Overall, the salsa gets a 9.5 and the burgers a 6.

Robin, thanks for the review. I just got my mag. and saw the recipe. I may have to give this a try (and add a little extra zip to the burgers).

I haven't seen this reviewed yet; but it wouldn't matter we cannot have too many reviews. Thanks for reviewing.

I made this today. Robin - we ate this as a side dish :) And it was so good. I thought the tequilla did give this dish that extra added kick!
I used my own spice for the burgers (and apparently I'm not missing anything) and will DEFINATELY be making the salsa again.

Glad to know the salsa is good. I plan to try it. I thought the "recipe" for the burgers themselves was kind of lame for CL, too. Ooohhh....add cayenne pepper to hamburger meat! There's definitely a lot more you can do for an interesting Mexican burger.

Great burgers... but this was due primarily to the salsa. I couldn't even taste the chipolte chile powder in the burgers. The burger part could definately use more seasoning.

If anyone has that salsa recipe in Mastercook, I'd love to have it!
Many thanks!
Clotilde.

Made this burger this evening for dinner. I agree with all comments on the salsa - its great! I made the burger w/ 95% lean ground beef, but otherwise followed the recipe. I actually made a note to reduce the chipotle powder the next time. I had to get a glass of milk to drink with dinner to tone down the heat! (I did use Penzey's... perhaps that's the difference???).
I served the burgers with the Southwestern Potato Salad from July, '02, and as posted by Terrytx here (http://community.cookinglight.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=41824&highlight=southwestern+potato+salad). I thought it was a nice combo.

I made these about a week, the Tequila Spiked Salsa was great-- even though I didn't add tequila to it! Instead of making the Guadlajara patty I made the Chili con carne burger out of Fitness 6/03 and served with the salsa, it was great!

Not to overkill the reviews on this burger--but DH and i just got around to making this last night--he picked this out since he didn't like the chicken burgers with peanut sauce. It was really really good--we skipped the buns, used laura's lean beef 4% fat, made the salsa as the recipe stated and served it with the lime tostitos tortilla chips in place of buns, oh and i melted pepper jack on top of the burgers....very very tasty! the salsa was fantastic, like guacamole but not all mashed up! i had leftovers for lunch today and they are still yummy--i did add some cajun seasoning to the burgers to spice them up a bit. two thumbs up from us!

We made these over the weekend and I have ot concur with Robin; salsa: 9.5, burgers 6. Served them sans bun with a side of cole slaw. I'll definitely repeat this recipe -- BBQ is always popular and this one's super easy, but I'm going to kick up the chipotle powder next time.
