View Full Version : Beauty hurts

I was visiting my sister the other day when I noticed she had yet another new beauty product - Lip Venom. My sister is the one who turned me into a make-up junkie. I am junior league compared to her. I looked at the Lip Venom package and read, "A spicy, tingly gloss that enhances your lip's natural color by increasing circulation to the area. The result is shiny, bee-stung lips that cannot be achieved by wearing lipstick. You can also wear it over lip color for extra moisture and shine."

So I asked my sister, "What is Lip Venom and is it something that I need to get?"

She said, "Oooh, try it on. It makes you lips tingle."

So I smeared some on my lips. Right away my lips started tingling and I kept licking them. Then she told me, "It kinda makes your lips swollen, for that full lip look."

By this time my lips felt as though I had been sucking a jalepeno pepper. I couldn't wait to get the stuff off. What kind of evil product makes your lips swell ON PURPOSE??!! I think this is one product I can do without.

joey new york also makes a lip plumper called "super duper lip kit" that my best friend loves.

i dont own either because i have pretty full lips naturally so i dont need it. i use to get made fun of for having too big of lips.

I also love Lip Venom. It's amazing stuff. It's especially good for nights when you'll be out eating/drinking and no lipstick would last. This stuff plumps up your lips and makes them pink. So you can have good looking lips without having to put on tons of lipstick.

Well, this is curious. What's the active ingredient? I'm imagining Goldie Hawn in the First Wives Club! :D

Where can you buy this? Department stores, or drug stores?

My sister got it at Nordstrom. You can also order it online. I think beautyofasite.com carries it.

Okay, maybe I am a wimp. Maybe I just have sensitive lips. But my poor little lips hurt. :(

I found this at Urban Outfitters and bought it. I really like it. I don't know if I'm a masochist, but I like the feeling on my lips. I'm not sure I notice a difference in the plumpness, but it does give them some color (and the cool tingly).

Well, well. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Women in Renaissance Italy would drop belladonna into their eyes, to give them that full-pupilled, lustrous look. And during Victorian days, it was fashionable to take small doses of arsenic, which makes the skin and hair silky, and gives an "interesting pallor". Now we put irritants on our lips to make them full.

Uh... come to think of it, is that really such a good idea on a date? I can imagine how that could have quite terrible consequences.

Just what we need! Another product to make us think that another part of us needs improvement! I was starting to worry that we would run out of things to buy products to fix. I'll sleep better now.

Tsk, tsk, what naughty minds! :D Anyway, I mostly only date A. these days, which seems only fair since I married him.

But even a simple goodnight kiss would be fraught with danger, methinks, if the object of your desires might leap back shouting "No! Owie! Burns!"

The painful kiss visual is funny (and whatever else). :o

It's not like that though. The tingling wears off pretty quickly.

Man, you'd think that I, of all people, would have picked up on the joke earlier than I actually did - I was still centered on how the tingly would feel on me - not someone else. :o

I want this stuff, really really badly. Maybe I'll get some tonight. I'm such a lip-stuff wh0re. ;)

You should get together with my sister, she-who-knows-all-things-beauty (especially when it comes to anything regarding the lips) ;)

I just know about hurting my dates. :o ;)
